I taken some screenshoots from my game...actually for the moment i'm working mostly with the art part(backgrounds, animated objects, sprites and other visual effets that i want in the game) and i need some suggest about it.

I'm using a 3d scenery maker and in some rooms i feel they are lack of details...what do you think? What would you add in these screens?

Wow, they're really great... I don't see much lack of detail in them. I guess the third background could have a bit of stars showing, as it doesn't seem to have clouds in that one area.

I agree, the third is the one i like less...actually the sky is completely covered...do you think i should add some clouds effect?

Those backgrounds look absolutely fantastic.Ã, I don't really like that big black are in the fourth one.  Maybe if you put a torch in the center of it, or something like that to lighten it up and make things more interesting right there.Ã,  And some stars in the sky of the last two would be good, maybe the moon and milky way, too.Ã,  Other than that I don't really have a lot to suggest, they're pretty great.

Jade

Yeah....i think i've exagerate with dark areas too.... :-\...i might add another kind of light source to make things more various.

Babar

they may not be lacking detail, but they are pretty desolate. Not a soul in sight! Not even any signs of inhabitation (except the torches/lights). Reminds me of Myst.
Perhaps you could add some potted vegetation. Or some ducks swimming in the pool(?). Some statues? Or scratches in the wall? Grafitti?

The character reminds me of Alexander from KQ6. Must be the green :)

Now, with his very own game: Alien Time Zone

They're good, the only problems I see are with picture 2.

- Does the lightning flash in the game?  It would look really weird if it were static.

- That is the BIGGEST cat-tails plant I've EVER seen!! :o

- The stone plate looks flat.  Try using displacement maps.

May I ask what program your using to make these? They look very good but maybe a bit empty.

The lightning is an animated object that flash randomly.

As for the plants proportion...i might adjust the character scaling?

Btw...the program i used is Vue d'Esprit 4.  ;)

I really like these backgrounds.  I think they look great.

I was so impressed that i actually downloaded a trial version of Vue 5 Esprit, which i found extremely easy to use, and it  had some real impressive features.  I ended up purchasing the program, but it's not cheap.  It cost's $249 (US).

Thank you Jade for inspiring me to make my BG's in 3D.  You've done some nice work.

Well, I'm not sure if you edited it but, there's this dark area in the middle, that looks like a spot where there isn't any clouds, while on the more purple areas there seem to be stars... I'd say either add a bit more detail (don't overdo it though, they're excellent now that they aren't perfectly visible) or then put some stars on the dark are, since it looks like there's an opening in the clouds there.

Jade

Yes...i think the best way is to edit it with photoshop and add some nice stars effect.  ;)

Paper Carnival

They look amazing, like what anyone else said.

A good idea to enhance the detail level is to put statues, and if possible let them hold torches too. Statues will match the atmosphere of the game very well.

What I noticed is that the columns lack their top head (or whatever it is in English)

This is your column

This is just an example, I hope it made sense. I suggest you be creative with it

I hope I helped

On my first look I thought there's Lara Croft on these shots. ;)

I like the atmosphere of your works (especially a beach at the second and this misty castle at the first piece), it reminds me a little of Rome at night. No need to worry, here's enough details as for me (only the sky at the third picture looks like untextured). The reason of what your works looks a bit empty, is that they seems too monumental in relation to the main character. Maybe just diminish some textures sizes or zoom in the character sprite?

Good luck with your game!

I'm not a fan of 3d rendered backgrounds but i actually like the atmosphere.
Like Xarkh said, i thought it was Lara Croft, and the backgrounds are really in Tomb Raider's style, i almost expect the main character to draw guns and start jumping on walls ;) All of your backgrounds carry that feel, i hope that was your intention.

I wanted to say that the second picture is looking great, but i hadn't realised it was sand for a while, it looked more like strange stairs to me, maybe because of the straight lines and (too)dark areas between curves. Just my opinion.

I hope you'll finish that game soon!

Jade

Well...as for finishing this game...i see it hard...hehe...i really have few time for it... :(

I noticed that some of you recognized the "Tomb Raider-ish" style...yes...actually my first thought was to make an adventure game ispired to one of my fav serie...but now i'm planning to make something more original.  ;)

Anyway...i'll keep in mind every good critic i read here. Thank you guys.  :)

Jade

Hey...you were right....look...i edited the third background with photoshop...now it looks alot better  :)

joeschmo9991

Looks awesome, but there still needs to be something in the left middle part of the shot. And though the clouds look awesome, they don't fit the rest of the scenery, maybe slightly sharper detail.

I'm a critic, but no artist. The actual area looks like Myst, but the sky looks like something from the Alladin disney movie.

Jade

Mmm....i can do another way...editing the clouds effect directly in Vue D'esprit...
