I like him already! I just did a little tweak here and there.

Can you spot the two differences?

Is it the grey background and lots of blank white space?
What do I win?

ManicMatt

Hahaha.

It just came out like that on MSPaint!

If I really must say what my teeny weeny changes were...

Nah. Surely you can tell. 'Cos I don't quite know how to put it into words.

The arms are longer... and the stomach is more pronounced? Yes?

seaduck

This looks like a great character!

2x

Changes:
- gave him a hawaiian shirt and creme shorts (which I think is more likely for this guy to wear - he looked like a little boy in a sailor's costume before)
- outlined the shirt
- changed the slope of the shoulders slightly

Other (non-fixed):
I think a big problem is the fact that he's facing directly toward you, which made you use the evil horizontal flip (even for the shading!) - hence the perfect symmetry( which is bad).

Another thing: His shoes are drawn exactly from profile - his ankles would probably be broken by now.

Looking good so far, keep it up!

Hmmmm......If Homer Simpson weren't yellow.......

Nice character, and I really dig the paintover Seaduck, but he doesn't look fat there anymore.. ManiacMatt made em nice fat like the profile said..
indeed the guy looked like a little boy before because of the clothing, the hawaiian shirt is perfectly for him..

Tho.. what do you mean with the "evil flip horizontal" thing, I heard it before.. is it bad your character doesn't change if you flip em horizontal? and if yes.. why..

People aren't perfectly symmetrical, so it kinda looks unnatural if you draw a person with two identical sides.

True.. true.. tho in adventure games I really like it when a front view is really watching the controller (you behind the pc).. so that means hes got a perfectly front angle.. in real life of course there are major differences, even in a perfect front view (scratches in clothing and stuff), but in AGS I ain't bothered at all by symeteric front views..

seaduck

Oh... good idea, should have made him fat.

DonB: You can have the characters FACE facing directly toward you and looking at you, and his body turned slightly to one side.

Even when a character's body is facing toward you, the clothes are typically asymetrical (pockets, etc.) and you can make small differences between the two sides, different position of the arms, or make him stand more on one leg, than the other.

very nice character. it reminds me of a rich/retired guy. now time to animate it.

Lol, now he maybe looks a bit too goofy..

Seaduck you are right.. all true! thanks for the info

I think his head looks a bit like a monkey's. Maybe if you defined the facial features more with shading and rounded his chin a bit that would help. If you don't understand I could do a a paint over.
