Hi. I've made a new character that I'd like some C&C on.

1x 2x

Side view:

1x 2x

What do yo think?

Babar

a white patch (like what there is on it's stomach) around it's nose and mouth would look nice.
The ultimate Professional Amateur

Now, with his very own game: Alien Time Zone

En garde!

It is quite nice. Maybe the shoulder could be a little lower. Now it looks like it's connected to his neck on the side view.

I'm satisfied with how the front view looks, but not the side view. It's something about the stance and the back of his head, I think.

Anyone's got an idea?

And you're right, En garde about the shoulder. It should be lowered in the side view.

En garde!

But anyway, the shoulder should be connected to the shoulderblade. Now it looks connected to the lower jaw. The back should be more like an "s" and less like an inverted "c".

Updated the pics:

1x 2x

Side view:

1x 2x

* added white area in face
* moved the arm in the sideview so it's not connected to the jaw!
* changed stance a little in the side view. (not really satisfied though)

Hello. The design and stance are all good. But the colours are very desaturated with little contrast, and that might hurt, depending on what the backgrounds will look like. As a rule of thumb, the characters should be more saturated than their backgrounds in adventure games. Just a bit really, to stand out. You're also wasting the middle fur shade, since it's so close to the other two, at 1x it doesn't show at all. Just up the contrast and saturation up altogether and try to reach a complementary level. A little more pronounced tint would also help this sprite, I think.

I think you should make the shadows a little bit darker so he looks less 2D

Great job, though.  I love it, hehe

fovmester

Thanks a lot!

I tried to make the colors a bit more interesting (as interesting as grey can get!) and darkened the shadows.

Here's the result:

1x 2x

1x 2x

Hey, the... er... thing's left leg on the side view - why is it bent like that? Makes him look like he's slouching, I think.

En garde!

Your character's posture is still, in my opinion, a little bit too straight. Unless he has a reason to be paying attention, a regular standing posture should be more relaxed. Here, let me make a quick photoshop to show you more or less what you should do...

I agree! I'll apply the changes!

Kweepa

I disagree!
The legs are good but he looks like he's about to fall over backwards.
And his neck looks even less relaxed.
Still waiting for Purity of the Surf II

En garde!

Heh. That's true. He looks a bit  like he's drunk. But it was just a quick job to show how the body distributes the weight in a relaxed posture,

Another idea would be to bend slighly the arms (real arms don't get that straight unless you are stretching them)

Peter Thomas

I agree that you shouldn't change the posture. That is how I naturally stand, so unless I'm some sort of freak... :(

But the legs could be relaxed a little... I admit mine aren't always THAT straight.

Ok, maybe you're right. I'll try just to bend the legs a bit.
