Sorry to make this so short, but

+ Nice tones
+ Thought point-of-view
+ Good contrast between background and model

- Distractions: curtains, carpet, shoelaces, loose wire (&shadow) on the left...
- I think it needs sharpening
- Feet and jeans left leg cropped (maybe due cropping other things away?)

I think this image would be vastly improved with some photoshoppery! Take away the whole background! Make it dark and sinister! That is my two pence.

First, the photo was blurry so I sharpened it up with a high-pass layer. Darkened up the background to give it some depth and added a bit of a vignette. Adjusted the over-all color. There was a subtle red, so I boosted some of the red tones to everything. Helped make the rug less distracting.

Composition is good. Could be a bit of a lower shot. Not a lot of interesting subjects and focus, so a better shot angle would help.

I quite like this image. To me the "distractions" don't really take away from the piece...they just make it more human. I guess that's why I'm not the artistic photographer.

Anyway...just for Matt:

Harry's got it right, here. I like the subject idea, but the angle should be a bit lower. That's hard to do with a camera, though.

I wouldn't go with such a yellow/red color, as he did. Makes it seem like you forgot to set the white balance to incandescent. With this kind of picture I'd either go black and white, or make it more of a bluish/cyan.

I wouldn't go for bluish/cyan because of the jeans.

I'd maybe put more contrast and maybe took off some saturation, but the tones look good to me otherwise. It doesn't even shout: "Hey, somebody forgot the whitebalance!", which is usually problem with these tones as [lgm] also hints.

Really, the red was in relevance to the rug. Almost any other color but red will make the red stand out. Cyan would make the rug a purple and stand out against everything. Sure, you could change the overall color of the rug first, but then you'd have even more grain on that part of the picture.

I agree with the light ballance too. All of this light looks reflected off of the walls or ceiling, like from a up pointing lamp. It's good, don't get me wrong, it just needs a lot of work.

My mate would kill me if he saw this thread, he was a little worried about me putting it online anyway.
