Sam.

opo - i used your head becuase i can replicate the style. Your head is awesome i just needed to see hoqw it was done. I wouldn't have been able to replicate loominus' stye for all of my chars and it didn't really fit with the game. I want to have a serious style but not too hard to animate!
Bye bye thankyou I love you.

Opo Terser

yeah thanks, i tried to to stick with your style

What can I say? You're going to see hell before everything will work. But there's a little suggestion:
Before making entire game -

Pick a background, and draw at least 5 versions of it. From scratch. About third one comes pretty easily already.
Doing same thing over again improves your skill and style alot more than making 5 different bg-s for game and then noticing that first one looks like crap compared to fifth one.

Just take some time, and try to practise. The way you use colors is pretty good, but shading and perspective needs a bit more care.

Few suggestions for the BG...  I think it's a good start, just needs a few changes to match the character style.

- The thing that really sticks out is the black outlines... it would look a lot better if they were a darker wall colour.
- Perspective is a bit off, which was mentioned.
- The wall colour is close to the coat colour, which makes the character hard to see... might look better if the walls were dark.
- Needs some lighting.
- Might look better if it was a hardwood floor, and there was a window on the right as a light source.

InCreator had some good advice, no harm in practicing. :)

Darth Mandarb

Just did a quick paint-over to show how using a vanishing point can tie it all together.

I didn't spend a lot of time detailing it, just the basic outline to show what I (and the others) are talking about.

Spend some time practicing, and you'll get the hang of it lickity-split.

Hope this helps!

Zooty, You have a great picture in your head for the background. What you need to do is make vertical lines strait, and change the wall color. Never make things the hide the character. Change the angle on the rug a little and get rid of the black outlines. Just keep practicing, you have potential

I like the way room looks like. So I couldn't resist and did color-it-yourself-edit on Darth's edit to see how much such room could be detailed.

I like the layout of room. But still, I'd suggest to avoid large floor and ceiling areas, because they're harder to detail than walls.

Sam.

thanks a lot guys! this really helps. i might use the colour by numbers thingy if thats ok, any tips on wall papering? i though peeling wallpaper might add to the seedineess
Bye bye thankyou I love you.

Call him Dirk Head. Great drawing, i'll have a bash at a redo of you background as soon as i get psp back on. The computer shat itself for no reason i ken. And now i have broadband yay for me!

Sam.

LOL! good namee, unfortunatley it doesn't fit with my "serious" style game. Any more suggestions?
Bye bye thankyou I love you.

Dirk Urquhart. Dirk Whitechurch. Dirk Thornton. Dirk Brookman.

YOke

I guess Dirk Diggler is out of the question?
I was thinking about something French-sounding, like:
Dirk Dumont
Dirk Dulong
Dirk Garneau
etc...

If you give him a French name he is able to have sweat stains on his shirt, and still keep his dignity...  8)

Dirk Sullivan. Make him irish.

here is the bg painted in now

Bye bye thankyou I love you.

Sam.

does anyone have a tutorial that could teach me to draw a sideways view of him?
Bye bye thankyou I love you.

Actually in an odd way, I like the realistic char, shoddy bg thing... just something about it that interests me greatly...

But what do I know... my characters are mostly 20 pixels high and 18 across... but they sure are cute though :P

There's a glitch in the floor in the gradient where you edited out the character...Is it just me or does the red carpet look a little blurry?
