Title: Nomad Jam!
Post by: MoodyBlues on Thu 16/04/2009 15:58:24
Okay, folks.  Here's a song I've been working on over the past week.  It's a piece for a nomad character who follows you around in Atapi.

http://www.freewebs.com/luvrayman/Maj4.mid

I think I'm on the right TRACK (lolz pun), but I have a few questions:
*Is there too much going on, especially percussion-wise?
*Does it loop well?
*Is it too cliche?  (In other words, does it scream "GYPSY!!!?")
*Are the trills annoying?
*What does it tell you about the character?

EDIT:  Here's an mp3 version that probably sounds better than the crappy soundfonts I have for my MIDI player:  http://www.freewebs.com/luvrayman/MUSIC9.mp3

EDITEDIT:  If you're having trouble getting the mp3 to play, click and drag the link to a tab in your browser.

Hate to bump this, but I'd really like feedback on this tune.  It's one of the more unusual pieces I've written, and I want to make sure it's not nails-on-the-chalkboard bad.

I am by no means a music person, but I like it.  I think it fits great in the description you gave.

It's great! That's all I can say.

I've been litsening to it like eight times trying to find something you can improve (since you helped me on my song I really wanted to help) but I can't find anything :D

I think I'm going to add it to my midi collection ;)

Great job!

I love it.

*The percussion's great. the rhythm's very catchy and steady throughout. Steady and unchanging rhythm is good because it can get a bit messy on a loop if the rhythm changes.

*It doesn't scream gypsy but it does convey the idea of nomad (the instruments being very "desert" sounding. So while it does give the image of a nomadic person, it doesn't go overboard. And ass long as you don't add tambourines, I don't think it will  ;D

* The trills help shake the music up and I think you should keep them in. They do help improve the feel of the song though.

* As for the character, it gives the idea of a sort of humourous character (The start is very cheery). It does make it seem like he's trying very hard to survive and seems to live a hard life.

All in all, great piece. Well done and good luck woth the game.

Dang Krishaw, I'm flattered!  Glad you like it.

The song actually has tambourines, but I guess it's not too obvious. ;)

Great!  That's exactly what I was going for.

Can you help me out? I was wondering if you could write some music for a short horror point and click game I was going to make. Just a short, quiet creepy theme tune for the title screen. If you can help can you PM me? Thanks.
