Title: Object Animation C & C
Post by: Farsight on Sat 01/05/2004 06:43:25
Here is a small 3 frame animation I put together and was wondering if anyone could give me some feedback on it:
Original Image (50 by 42)

For people with sight problems (100 by 84)
And for blind people (200 by 168)

P.S (It's supposed to be Saddam Hussein ;))

well, depending on what style you're working in, it's hard to give an opinion.

since he has a yellow mouth, red teeth and eyes and a green nose, I assume you're doing more abstract than realism, in which case I wouldn't change a lot. I'd add a mustache (becase Saddam had one), and MAYBE darken the skin so it's more brown/black (because that's the colour of his skin). It's sort of hard to tell who it is because the colours are odd, but as long as it's made CLEAR in your game (or for whatever purposes you made it) I think it's fine. It'll probably be funnier if it looks nothin like Saddam anyway :D

I think he already has a moustache, Peteyboy...

It's a very basic animation, isn't it?

Is it supposed to be a talk anim?

Please tell us so perhaps you could get more crits...and an perhaps an exclusive paintover  by me  ;)

If its supposed to be a talk anim his mouth should move. Because at the mo it just looks like his beard is growing and shrinking.

oh - he does have a mustache, too...

Don't know WHAT the hell I was thinking... maybe  I thought it was a big booga or something? :-S

The main reason it looks so bad is because it's in 16 bit colour which makes it all so more uglier! I wasn't quite sure what colour scheme to use but I was in a bad mood so I tried to make him look like a perfect picture of evil (A VAMPIRE ;D) He originally had blood dripping down his face and longer fangs. In my game it is 50 by 42. Here's my picture labeled:

P.S. It was done in paint.

Okay,

Saddam Hussein didn't wear turbans; that's Osama Bin Laden.  If you wanted Hussein, give him a beret.

Thanks. Yes it was supposed to be a talk animation object. Which appears at the start of the game. Here's a hat change:

It probably looks nothing like a beret only because I am quite a bad artist anyway and defiantly not a pixel artist!

I'm still confused? If he is suppose to be sadam maybe you could try and make him look a little more like sadam, if your a bad artist and want this to be funny use the sadam head used in South Park, that always makes me laugh.

Oh, and maybe if you change the beret color to green, I don't see very many miltary type berets that are blue do you? Well you don't see people with red teeth either so, maybe work it into a more realistic color for him.

he, don't run away with that theory and try to sell it :)

The main reason why it looks so bad is simply that there are very few parts of that picture that resemble to an actual picture of Saddam Hussein; in fact, it probably hasn't got one pixel in common with an actual picture of Saddam Hussein.

Einzigartig, although with a stretch, managed to whip up something that could pass as Saddam Hussein if observed tolerantly, and as you can see, it wasn't very hard. He just kept track of a few key features; the moustach, the barret, the skin colour etc.

To me, ure pic looked just like an alien the words "hey, that's saddam" didn't even think about threatening to enter my head. Einzigartigs was much better i would have understood more if it was the natural colours of a face or oyu described what context it was in. but hey, it's a start

Used EuL's pic, added some shading... And worked on the talking animation. Mine has 5 frames (closed, open, wide, 'o' shape and back to open).

Wahoo! That is great (Yes I now announce I am a horrible artist). You obviously are better than I am! 8) If it's ok with you I will use that in my game. Thanks everybody for your replies. If anyone else wants to you can continue posting more images. I am happy to look at other ideas.

Just because we redrew the pic doesn't mean we claim ownership. Although you should probably look at the improvements and draw your own using all the info and crits, it free for you to take.

That could be slightly more difficult as it needs to be much much smaller to fit in my game.
