Title: Ogre? (DW1 style emulation)
Post by: Scavenger on Thu 30/10/2003 23:23:24
Well, I've been working hard on my game :) and I've finished a third version of my ogre guy thing. You can see the three stages below:
(http://invis.free.anonymizer.com/http://www.freewebs.com/mdragon/images/ogre.gif)(http://invis.free.anonymizer.com/http://www.freewebs.com/mdragon/ogrenew.gif)(http://invis.free.anonymizer.com/http://www.freewebs.com/mdragon/Art/ogrethird.gif)
Hmm... he seems to get shorter and wider. Anyway, critique the third, as it is the newest. Though, how I'm going to animate him is beyond me.

"Sou like, whut's dis den?" BLAM! :P

I like the sprites pretty much...but since you're aiming for a discworldish
look I took the ogre and gave it a quick edit.

I noticed the discworld sprites uses black outlines. Also they have a rather cartoony feel to 'em. I chose to exaggerate the ogres muscles a bit more. He looked rather timid to me for an ogre. Also a bit stiff maybe. I also made his arms a bit longer and his legs a bit shorter

Hope this helps a bit...

Ooh - Nice to see that someone is going to use the DW1-style for their graphics for a change!
The biggest thing I can see is as kaaZ said: The outlines should probably be black if you want more of a DW-style to it.

Hail Illapalazzo-sama!

Kaaz: Hehe. Nice sprite :) I am wonder how you do such intricate shading o.o

I've totally redrawn my sprites :) Hopefully its more a DW style than before.

The Ogre - redrawn to look slightly more ogre like, now with anabolic steroids, made more DW style for your pleasure!

The Imp - Drawn to be more menacing, smaller, less like the ogre's colour scheme, now with concealed wings (which are of course, useless)

Can you see I've used DW1's palette, too? C+C, please! :P

Wow, scavenger! Your last two sprites have certainly improved, Discworld-style-wise  ;)

The Ogre still has a lot of your own styles mixed in though (the 'straight/thick' legs being the most obvious), but I think that's a good thing.

That looks more Simon the Sorceror style but I love it anyways.

Yes, another improvement in my opinion.

The legs are much better now, less 'lumpy'. The character even has feet, which were hard to notice in the previous version.

Well done ;)
