Title: One day Ravey drew sprites... C&C them. :D
Post by: on Wed 28/07/2004 01:00:21
Ahhh, I've been neglecting MS Paint again... And I've been taking a break from AGS as well. But I decided to crack open paint and come up with some sprites, basically I wanted to draw some of my favourite characters in my own style. I thought about how I could change them and here's what I came up with.

The first sprite I did was Solid Snake, I wanted to draw him in a cross between my own style and Metal Slug. Here is what I came up with:

Yes, it's very blue.

Second up, I wanted to draw Guybrush Threepwood. My ideas were to create an older guybrush, slightly influenced from doing the Solid Snake sprite a little while ago. Here it is:

Pretty cool, especially since I didn't use any sources for it.

C&C is appreciated, thanks. :)

The lightest highlights on the face make the other white of the characters (Cigarette and shirt) bland. They should look just fine with out that lightest color. Other then that they look good. Guybrush's head could be moved right one pixel though.

Hmmm, I'll experiment with that. I'm not sure about moving the head to the right though, sorta makes it a little weird. Thanks for the comment. :)

I think they're both very good, and I mean it ... if you can keep that style and come up with a good game plan, you'd be pretty damn popular around here ... heh ...

Yeah, my style is very consistant. I've got no plans for any games for now though, something to look into though. And everyone knows I am already souperly popular because of my wittyness and unmatched personality. ;_;

Update: Out of boredom, I drew some spaceship:

:D Yesh, my head will explode... Either because of my ego or I'm storing a whole lot of air in there (That would make me air head man ;_;). Anyways, What ya think of the new spaceship sprite? :P

Hey there,

I'd like to throw in my proverbial two cents about these sprites - Firstly, especially without the benefit of sources to work on, they're especially slick. I've always been partial to the bearded Guybrush; however one thing that I had noticed about the sprites is it seems both of their waistlines seem maybe a few pixels too low. It's less noticeable on Snake, but it makes guybrush look like he's been swilling a bit too much grog, if you get my meaning. Try hiking up Mr. Threepwood's belt a bit, and maybe even drop the crotch of his pants a pixel or so.

Also, With the great shading job you've done on the rest of their bodies, pure black boots seem a little flat and undetailed. Just a slight gray spot or two could work wonders. Something seems just a bit off about Guybrush's eye as well, the eyebrow is a bit heavy, being pure black, perhaps.

Thanks Daz, even if I'm doodling in paint I try to do it well. Oh, and lmao at Revan. :P

Ahhh, decided to edit it a bit for a classic guybrush sprite.

the dark bit under his (classic Gbrush) eye makes him look very sleep deprived, coupled with the rather flat face. the rest are pretty amazing though.

Hmmm... I've made an edit of it. I got the colours from the Guybrush sprite from Monkey Island 2:

Yeah, I checked a little Guybrush sprite I found and although it's a little faint, especially against his skin, it's there. :P
