These are a few characters I made recently, just experimenting with color, shapes, and sizing. Criticizing is certainly welcome. :)
And thoughts/ opinions are too.

I don't really know what I am going for, somewhat western maybe.

Evil

The big head is a bit too much but the other too look great. Some higher contrast maybe, but it depends on what the backgrounds look like.

I suggest a tad bit darker skin, and much more contrast in skin shade.
You did a great job shading the faces, but it's almost not noticeable due so similar colors.

Palette is a bit boring. I mean, everybody's brown. I'd use a bit more saturation on clothes here, give each of them a color.

Are they going to walk?
With feet like this, how?

Tuomas

As for the palette, do you think it's necessary to use so many colours? There seems to be almost one colour for every 2 pixels. It might maky it a bit foggy in the game, especially if the background uses just as many. A jungle of details you see. You might want to have just a couple of colours with more contrast, as InCreator said, to show the details better and to make the characters more interesting to the eye.

Alright thanks!

-More Contrast/saturation
-Less colors
-Define Characters more

To answer your question InCreator, I was thinking along the lines of a side-scroller sort of way. Basically all of the walking would be left and right. The background images would have a flat perspective (I really don't know if this is good.)

Here is an example of better contrast between colors with fewer colors used.

1.  Removed the alpha channel and alpha blending.  With sprites this small this is fairly unnecessary.

2.  Reduced colors per character considerably, using only 2 shades for skin, hair, and clothing.
