Title: Outlaw sprite(s) for C&C
Post by: El Drey on Thu 14/09/2006 13:26:29
Hi there!

I did this "sprite" just for fun. (There's a lot of AA going on)

I'm not very good at making tiny images (200 pixels tall is tiny), but I gave it a shot.

Now I'm curious to find out what you think. Tear it apart, if necessary.

It's a mexican desperado.

I think there's a lot of room for improvement, especially the colors. I don't seem to get the spaghetti western color style.

See you around.

Drey.

*WARNING*Noob comment*WARNING*

I think the face and the hat is too blurred.
About the torso I think it shold be like grren/yellow/brown/orange mixture.

I think pretty much everything is too blurred. I wouldn't call this a sprite, since sprites usually tend to have some 10-20 colors or less. But it does look good, just reduce the colors quite a bit. :)

Although if it's part of the style of your game(?) or whatever you made this for, then it being all blurred probably isn't such a big problem.

I think it's wonderful. I like it.

It's a sprite Pablo. A sprite is just an image used in a game.

But I agree with everyone else, It's very blurred, did you draw this bigger and then resize it?

Also I'd try to cut in some darker lines in the interior of the body. The change between the poncho and the pants is nice. The hat and the face don't seperate well. I'd personally just shade the underside of the hat more. Also I'd define the fingers more after you've reduced the size of the sprite.

Some people reduce sprites to the size they'll be in game and just import it and be done. There is a lot of editing you should do before you're done.

Sharpened the image up and adjusted some hues. The green clashed too much with the color of his skin, so I made it a red/purple, which also helps to give him a more sinister look. The hat was too green. Usually, most western games have a sort of dusk feel too them, so an orange brown looks a bit better. Also helps make it stand out against yellow sand and dirt that is common in westerns. Added some shading around the hat and gun.

Well, since the overblurred mexican should be completely redone, I started on another one, this time pixel by pixel. Let me know what you think...

Don't mind the dropped shadow, it's completely screwed up.

Comments? Is this better/worse?

Hmm, I liked the style of the other better. The overall values of his clothes are too dark. Even though they're dark, they're still going to have some 4 or maybe 3 values. Head seems to far farward too.

I like the second - nice
It's just the back of his jacket thats missing. His shirt would sit like that but his jacket wouldn't.

Have you guys gone completely mad? All of them are excellent! El_Drey, I suggest that you just pick one that suits the game's art style the most.
