Ok, I've been doing some artwork for my upcoming game, and started with this one yesterday:

Edit:
Ok, changed a lot now - Added some bushes,(Not too sure about the berries, though...) drew some clouds, two buildings, made some branches on the trees, made the mountain higher, placed the bench closer to the screen, and did some flowers to round things off... ;D

What do you think? Better or worse?

SLaMgRInDeR

its pretty good, but put some clouds in the sky.

can you please replace with a GIF, PNG or if need be, JPG

Rincewind

SLaMgRInDeR:
Yeah, I'm going to do that, but I really haven't figured out in which style to do them. At first I thought of doing them swirly alá MI3, but then I realized that it might not fit the more serious attitude of the game.
I'll see what I can do...

Custard:
Already done.

The trees need some single branches here and there.

Besides clouds you could add some grass in the foreground. You could also make an interesting 'centerpiece' in the open space in front. Something like a garbage bin, a park bench, an anthill or something?

I'd also change the color/texture of either the wall or the building in the backdrop. Their colors match, so I feel you need more contrast to tell them apart.

I'll add some branches - It does look rather empty otherwise...

Grass in the foreground is also a good idea. I might take your advise there too.
The most important thing about this scene is actually the bench in the background,(There will be a  close-up screen when you walk near it)  so I might put it closer to the screen, and thus making it the "centerpiece"... ;D

Thanks for all your tips, man!

Rincewind

All right - I edited the picture, hopefully for the better...

its all good, apart from the foreground bushes IMO, too similar colour to the grass might be it

Neole

I like the 'no outline' look!

Very nice colorful picture! Will work excellent in a game!

One thought though: Are park benches not more often placed along the paths? The way the bench is placed now seems a little... odd? Nothing serious , it just caught my eye... Maybe you could place a small path leading to a fountain or a pond in front of the bench, giving it a more natural place with a view?

And the rightmost tree of the middle sized ones lacks a shadow i believe...

Good work!

Wow, it looks so much better now!

I agree with matzyboy however that the bench needs to face something.

Synthetique

maybe you could make a path in front of it or something? and a fountain? ;)

Rincewind

Thanks everybody for commenting!

I never thought about the benchs position since I don't really visit them that often in real life... A path in front of it is great idea - I'll definately add that!

Custard:
I've been a bit suspicious about the bushes, too. I'l try to make them darker and then we'll see how it looks... ;D

Neole:
Glad you like it! I've done about four or five backgrounds in this style now for my future game.

Rincewind

Aye, updated once more. I don't like how the path turned out, though - I need to work on it some more.

But no fountain, folks. Sorry... ;D

Hey Rincewind,

I took your picture and added some effects with Paint Shop Pro.
I think it adds some depth to the background.

What do you think?

Synthetique

lol... no.. now it looks like wet paper...

Rincewind

Fidodido:
Well, that looks nice, but it's not the style I'm going for in the game.
And as Synth says, it gives the impression of a paper soaked in water... ;D
(You made the wall look way better, though. Great!)

Thanks anyway!
