Is 24 bitmap a good option ?

When i first started playing around with background's i found out that using JPEG was not what i wanted for the fact i could not go back and touch up things later( blurry). So i just went to 24 bitmap and noticed that i can use this for AGS and going back and touching up things later is was not a problem. I am currently using the basic paint program that comes with the computer...Paint...I know this is def not the best option but for the moment it's acceptable.

What I'm wondering is are there any drawbacks to using this option?
and why?
All seems to be working well at the moment, i dont have any problems, but i notice other people are using PNG and other options.

can anyone explain a bit about these options....thanks

You won't be able to take advantage of PNG (or even GIF, another option under certain conditions) properly in MSPaint. 24 bitmap works, but it'll probably result in a lot of space being used up (for your art, not after you import it into the game).

You might think that MSPaint is acceptable, but you really should move on to something better, depending on what sort of art you are working on. For example, if you are doing pixel-art, GraphicsGale is a good option.

Also, this is probably not the best place to have asked this question, but I'm sure someone will be around to move it shortly.

As a rule of thumb:

JPG for photos, PNG for everything else.

JPG uses lossy compression; if you store Pixelart as JPG you get artifacts and changed colors.

Sorry to post this in the wrong spot, and thanks for the help, and yes....it's time to part with paint and try some others i downloaded.
