The Suitor

I've been working on some things, and molding out a character. This would be a portrait that I first "sketched" on a the pc with a mouse, then shrunk down, and did the ole tracing thing. I've been experimenting with different methods; I think I could improve a lot easier with this method...

and the 'digital sketch' I started with...

I've done this before with my avatar, but with a scanned paper sketch. I used the hell out of the burn and dodge tool in gimp. It seems more time consuming to me, but it feels easier.

She looks pretty good!  The only two things that immediately jump out at me are:

1)  She looks like she's crossing her eyes.  If that's unintentional, try moving her right pupil to the right more.

2)  Her neck may be a bit long, and it seems a bit disconnected from her head.  Maybe moving the head to the right a bit more may help.

Looks nice so far!

Some things to think about:
1. Think about adding a fixed light source -- right now everything is "pillow-shaded" meaning each surface is independent of each other and thus kind of looks flat.
2. Google up human anatomy, if you wish to be more realistic. The shoulders are a bit uneven right now and I think the breasts should be lower.
3. You may want to take gravity into account when doing the hair. It kind of looks like some of it is floating, and not naturally resting and flowing with the face.

Okay, an edit trying to fix a few things mentioned. I suppose the light source is coming from "the camera" so I tried to fix.

Shortened the neck, did some hair paintover (used my wife's hair as reference without her knowing).

Thanks for the suggestions so far!  ;D
