Title: Pirate with no clothes.
Post by: Synthetique on Sat 16/08/2003 01:30:53
Hey all!
Here's the main character for my short/medum length game.
Yes he is nude.. He will change outfits and also wander around nude if necessary.  ;D

C&C is very welcome.

And if anyone feel like putting on some non-ordinary pirate clothes, i would be most grateful because i am kinda stuck here.

EDIT:
I've decided to let him go nude on all of you.

Also which one of these do you like the most?
The one to the right is 2 frames longer, making a smoother but slower movement..

Wha.... what happened to the alien?! he's cool.

The character is very Monty Python, I like it. He doesn't look very piratey though.

The alien is a long time thing.. Need to relax from it.

nice and smooth, although his ear changes size quite a bit in the animation

An eye patch would be nice, along with some AA. :) It looks very good but very jagid...

I'm not one to advise about animation, but as he is a pirate, he might have a bit more of a swagger to his walk. We have lovely swaggers. Also, a pegleg might be cool. Or a hook hand.

As for the other animations, even though the right one has more frames, the left one seems smoother to me. Maybe it's just because it's faster. Both are awesome, though.

I dont want an ordinary pirate that you see everywhere.

Well if I knew what it was for I might be able to pick between the two :)

Ok what about this then? Is this ok?

Oh, and that spin move.. it's either a throw or a punch..

You animate so well, synth, it looks awesome.

It looks better nude IMO. :P

why doesn't he have any genitals?

It looks nice, although one of the things that poopes me off in games is that people are ALWAYS drawing really in-your-face boobs, but a naked pirate doesn't even have an inoffencive cartoon willy. I guess that's not really helpful C&C, but as regards the animation choice, I'd say the one on the left was better

I like the nude one as it is... It looks funny, like from a cartoon... just give him a very big saber in the inv... and I like the firts animation better... :P

And the cartoony willy gives a world of possibilities for the animation... Big, soft, small, bouncing...

I enjoy the look of this character. The walking animation is awesome.

But what I notice about the spinning animation is that He steps with his left foot, but ends up spinning on his right foot. The spin should be on the same foot with which he steps.

Regardless, good job. ;D

That's beautiful. Although I'd be careful using that style for all the characters in the game. What makes this pirate so marvelous is the fact that it's so unique. I think hat having a lot of characters with such minimalist facial features could prevent any one character becoming really memorable. It's just an idea, but I am often concerned by games that take radicle (and gorgeous) visual styles like this, but because of the stylised aproach to drawing people, characters become a little interchangable!

But that's me just looking for bad news to give. I didn't mind the foot-swap in the animation, it just makes it a little more cute (like the guy isn't really sure on his feet, and a but shuffly-stumbly even when making big sweeping motions like that spin).

The talking animation is crazy-cool!

i love this character ;D ;D

but the wobbling of the head seems a bit awkward, maybe the head should rotate a bit backwards when talking

i don't know

and maybe you should look at the double pixels sometimes, but it isn't bothersome at all... :)

I just like the way he walks :)

I really like the wobbly lines n animation in general. One thing that I d make different would be the eyes.

At the moment they look too off in my opinion when they travel around the face reaching a complete frontview in one frame.

Although it s a cute effect, it makes him look a bit inanimate as though his eyes weren t really in use by him. Ofcourse this is just my opinion.

Thank you all!!
This is overwhelming response for this little guy. ;D

Captain Mostly: I think like you, the other characters will not be as minimalist as him. They will have clothes too.

N3TGraph: The wobbling stays as it is. ;) And the double pixels looks nice in the game as he will be scaled alot. The backgrounds is outlined with a double sized pencil so he fit in real good.

I think the original one is better, the edited version has a weird frame in the arm when the left arm is at the front extreme frame, I also like the colours of the original better.

(can I use him as avatar on another forum? :P) :)

You gonna do voice overs? I really see this dude going around using different impressions and stuff. It'd make for a really fun game. ;)
