Hey Ljubi,

Don't say it's crap, because it isn't!
I like your character. Only thing I would say is: look at the anatomy aspects. His legs for example are rather short in comparison to his torso / head.

Also his shoulder/arm should be centered (don't know how to explain this properly)

A good start!
Keep it up

Admittedly, I don't have anything even vaguley artistic to contribute, bar that I think (note: think) what LJUBI was trying to say was that the arm should be more to the front of the character (that is, to the right), it seems to be a little too far back, like he's really pushing his chest out. Could be I'm totally off-track here.

HOWEVER.

What I actually came here to say: don't say it's crap, because it most definitely isn't. There is always room for improvement, there is always something to learn, but because you are learning does not mean that what you have produced in the process is crap. It's good stuff, I like it, and I'll be interested to see what the local forum hardk0rists (my word for them) have to say. Keep it up, from one learner to another.

I made some changes.

NOTE: I'm at the same level of graphical ability as you, and I'm just a person who is trying to be helpful all the time.

But one thing I can say, that I think is right, is that your character will need a bigger area of space around him so you can animate him without any problems.

Thank you all.
We say it's a crap cause of all great sprites in this forum.
How can you say it is ok when you see Big brother,Increator,Darth,Krysis....
with their work.

But this is what we need and it was a great help.

n3tgraph,CoyoteJack,ManicMatt, thanks for paintover and especially for encouragement.

Don't get discouraged, I think it's a very respectable try. Remember, there's always a bigger fish out there, so no matter how good you get at something, there will always be someone to look up to. And if any one person is quantifiably "the best", it's not a fun place to be, since everyone will be trying to top them.

As far as your sprite goes, I would focus on the outlines. There are a few basic approaches to this, each with it's own merit. It's mainly important to get them consistent throughout the sprite.

Here are a few ideas:

- Outline every area with a darker shade (not black)
- Outline every area with black
- Outline only the outside lines (that touch the background) with black
- Use strong shading instead of outlines (ex. King of Fighters 2002 character portraits)

Give it a try, and keep up the work!

I don't know, i think its all about what style your going for. A game might have sprites with the longest upper bodies, but shortest legs and still be excellent graphics. Graphics required for adventure games uses more cartoony graphics often enough and cartoon is all about looseness of style. Big feet/tiny feet, gigantic head, doesn't really matter, as long as its consistent :)

With that. your sprite looks cool. Listen to bb, he is the master :).

PLEASE see the first post.
Is this better we think it is but something is missing.

THANK YOU ALL (we never thought that we can draw like this)

Now please give us more help(no paintovers  cause if youdo that our character will look so bad).

This is realy exciteing.

That looks a lot better!

You've chnaged the hat? That's just as well because I thought the yellow hat was a safety helmet! But it mustn't be.

I'm still concerned about the space around him. Is this the whole height and width of space around him on your saved file? What if he needs to bend over to pick something up? He'll go off the screen!

You made him much much better than before.

First of all it is apparent that it is not your girlfriend that drew him this time. The first sprite had boobies like he was a champion bodybuilder or something (maybe she digs guys like him), but now you reduced his chest to normal.

I like the colours you chose.

I like the shoes very very much! Maybe have some hair coming out of his chest. He does seem like the kind of guy that has a lot of hair all over. Make it seem some.

BTW the comment about the girlfriend is obviously a joke!

Much better indeed. I'm jelous!

Can you maybe try to make the other arm visible as well, seen as how his closest arm is, the other one should also be visible.

Too much colors! Pay more attention to shading and colors and your cartoony style will do fine. I found lots of colors not visible on image, but still there (few RGB values different)... why?

Big Brother's ideas were good, try them. But I'd go with low-color shade cartoony look, which looks more like cel-shading.

Pick three or four colors per body part and put them into full effect.

Also, pay attention to them so there was not too much contrast between them (outlines on your version!) , but also that there was enough contrast to see them with human eye (these invisible shades on your version!)
I hope my crappy english still made some sense...

Example:

Also, double pixels suck.
(see your version of pants and mine, your outline had double pixels)

400% zoom:

Double pixels -  :(

No double pixels -  :)

You still need to add the other arm.

THANKS Increator.

How can we draw his nose on front view we try everything and it is bad.
And legs are not quite good.

You could represent the nose from front view by drawing the outline just under it. That is one possible solution.

In addition, I would change the outline of the hat from black to a dark red, just to keep your outlines consistent. Also, it seems like there's an extra shade on his pants in the front view. Also, try removing the shade between the lightest value and the shadow on his pants. Its value is too close to that of the lightest shade and its placement seems unclear.

Well, the thing about this guy is that... well... he looks strange with this clothing. What sort of guy wears that sort of clothing? He looks like a big bad man that dresses with his little brother's clothes. Or like an 80's gayman on a Madonna concert. I suggest a different clothes or a different face, couse this is tooo odd combination.

I think that in he front view his head is a tad too big, comparing to the rest of the body.

About the clothes, krysis said, it's a good observation but I would add that it depends on the personality of that person...

Hey ljubi.
Don't worry if it's crap. You will get better with time and the critics lounge.
Stay cool.

It's not always the graphics that make the game.
It sure helps, but as an ancient-old example I'd like to dig up Pleurghburgh again. The graphics are good but not extremely super!

The game though is magnificent!
