Map view of a prison camp.

This is sort of a map of a luxery encampment, all the areas in the camp will be visitable as new rooms (Still have to draw them). Anyway what do you think? I could also use some ideas on a few extra things to put into the camp to add a little more variaty.

Changed version. Added barbed wire, guard towers, got rid of the sky, added a gate, added more texture to the ground and ive added a few other things. What do you think?

it looks like a gnoom town coz the grass on the other side is much higher thought the rest is good  :D

LOL I never thought of it like that. The green stuff is supposed to represent a forest and not grass, I suppose I cant really do trees at all.

This is really nice, but at least one gate would make it easier to enter the site (unless you have to go through the river). Also, maybe towers at the corners would look good. A large main building would look good, especially if this place has some kind of authority.

Just some ideas ;D

Btw, they don't look like trees because you can't see their trunk.

It's nicely done, but try to vary the shapes of those tents a bit.

And at this angle, the sky wouldn't be visible at all, unless that's a very high cliff back there.

I was just about to second khrismuc.

Actually, I will second him, I just won't repeat him.

The only other thing I would mention is that I've never seen a town with perfectly rectangular boundaries. It makes it look like it's meant to be made out of lego. But it does hold a nice charm to it. I think it is otherwise done very nicely :)

I'm confused ... the title says "prison camp" but your description calls it a "luxery camp"?  Which is it?

It's not bad ...

It's lacking some details though.

If it IS a prison camp, you need to add details like guard towers and possible barb-wire.  Stuff like that.  The open space isn't a bad idea (gives the prisoners too much open ground to cover if they attempt an escape) but the walls should have some kind of entrance/exit spot.

As was suggested the sky probably shouldn't be visible.

Also, as you mentioned having troubles with trees ... if you want them to look like trees I'd suggest adding in some tree trunks.  Just play around with it and see what you come up with.  Right now it really does look like grass.

Lastly ... shadows/light source.  Looks like your light source is coming from the bottom of the picture (as evidenced by the highlight on the river bank.)  So you could add some shadows to the buildings, tents, and walls.

It'd add a lot more life the the picture!

You need training grounds, or patches of sand. Now it looks a bit empty and boring. Also, you could vary the fencing a bit. A rectangle like that can be ever so dull. Also, you should add some landscape in the background.

I case of a prison camp, think you're doing an "escape the evil nazis game? Well, I didn't quite enjoy searching this picture, but it might come in handy, depends on what you are looking for:

Thanks, i'll the add a big gate at the bottom and some huge gaurd towers.

I guess your right aboute the sky, ill fill up that space with more trees.

It's a luxary prison camp, look at it it has huge walls so you cant get out, it has sound sensers underground so you cant dig out. So basically the enemy just build a huge wall wich you cant get out but you can cut do anything you want within reason. Some people chose to make huts and some people chose to make tents, they have lots of freedom but they are still prisoners, it's more of a luxery camp than the images that Tuomas posted. As for the tree trunks, because of the angle the tree tops would obscure most of the trunks but i'll see what I can come up with.

Thanks for the pictures, that's how I was originally going to do it. I thought the great escape would make a good adventure game, eventually I decided to do my own version which you see at the top of this post.

If the prisoners can build houses why cant they build a raft or a boat and just leave through the rivergates? And they can make a ladder and get over the walls.
U need guards. Lots of guards. Guns, barbed wire, electric fences and stuff. Patroling guards, dogs and maybe some searchlights. And a big antena or satelite to call reinforsments  :)

LOL I never thought of it like that, I feel so stupid. I gues I should add lots of guard towers and barbed wire and stuss to stop the ladders (Which I never even thought of). As for the water it has strong metal bars blocking it off (hard to draw on this view) but it's a point which you might possibly be able to escape from (As you can imagine if I set a game in a prison camp then the aim is to escape, im going to add several ways that you can escape and finish the game but it's not going to be easy).

Not easy, but at least is immoral. Or maybe even frustrating :)

To the latter, you might just add 5 layers of minefield within 20 meters rad. of the wall and another wall there... But hey, it's supposed to be escapable in the long run, right? so don't exaggerate with the guards...

I am currnetly working on a game and I think that your graphics will be judged on the whole. It is just fine as it is. It makes sense. It is reasonable. I hate when something is plain obvious to get away from.escape/what the puzzle wants/be there just for the shake of puzzles and gameplay. Your map makes sense.

Try to imagine, how it would be if you were inside that prison camp. That's what I did with my dungeon. Try to imagine then how it is like when you actually play the game. But even if the map is not 100% but 85% or something, it doesn't make a lot of differnece, cause if your gameplay, your character, your rest graphics are fine, then you have nothing to worry about. Just move on.

PS. This advice may be coming from my need to move on, but my personal life keeps me from doing that, and I have to wait! God I hate that. Sorry for that personal thingy here ;D

Actually, I noted one thing wrong with the map:

The gate has a path leading away from it into the forest, but there is no path leading up to it... It is kind of situated in a place where there are trees on the inside of the camp. Shave those off a bit and you might be good.

Also, just a suggestion, but you might want to have places connected by dirt roads or beaten paths covered in dead grass... Or something. The camp looks kind of unused right now. And, if it is a labor camp, you might want to draw little tiny shovels and wheelbarrows and quarries and holes and stuff... I don't think anyone would have a bunch of prisoners doing farming.
