this a some of the charactors, i'm VERY part time working on, mostly its just still in the story stages. but I have done some charactors.
here they are.

here is an edit of the chicken dude, as well as an other character, i did before (http://www.2dadventure.com/ags/firstransolar.png)
They look nice! One minor thing though, the guy on the far left, you need to make his arm wider. Aside from that, they look cool! I guess this new game isn't going to be "low_res". ;D

??? do you mean the bird guy or the human?
I think he meant the human. His upper arm seems a bit thin compared to his hand and lower arm. You could either widen his upper arm, or make his hand smaller. Or keep it the way it is, if you really like the way it is right now.
Looks great :D Keep up the good work!
First of all, I love your characters, especially the dragon guy. The pink really suits him.
Here are some critiques I have (from left to right).
-----
Guy #1
I don't see any problems accept that his back foot looks a bit off.
-----
Guy #2
Shouldn't his beard be the same color as his hair, purple?
I think his hair color is a bit too similar to the suit. I would make it a bit darker and tweak the hue to look a bit more purple.
PERSONAL PREFERENCE:
The uniform. Why does he have gray on his suit? Try using the darker blue instead so it is UNIFORM with the others. (I haven't photo-shopped the blue so it might still look better gray)
-----
Guy #3
His ear is a bit to high, it should be lowered so it's between his eye and his nose.
At the angle he's standing, I believe his other arm should be showing.
The lines on his torso look as if they're outlining his ribcage. If this was your intention, great. If you were outlining his chest, it should be a bit higher. I personally think the latter would look best.
Uniformity again:
The color on his shoulder doesn't go to the edge of the seem like Guy #1. I personally like the shoulder design of Guy #3 better and think it should be carried over to Guy#1.
-----
Guy #4
The back arm looks a bit too low.
The purple is a bit dark.
The middle toe should be angled a bit more outward.
The tail doesn't read very well. Are those feathers coming out his backside? Why are the spikes spaced out like that and why are they different sizes?
Try to make some kind of pattern for them so they look as if nature grew them and weren't just randomly placed.
Uniform:
I know he has chicken legs, but even they can be covered with pants?
-----
Uniform, again.
Guy #1 has a yellow stripe down his pant leg when no one else does.
They all have the yellow in there collars though, which looks out of place, to me, when there isn't a yellow line to back it up, like Guy #1.
dragon guy has grey because he weres an anti-gravity generator, he's from a light worlds so normal gravity would make him feel a tad heavy. I'll workk on one eyed chicken guys tail feathers
the bearded man is the captain, purple is the command colour, like red in star trek
the shoulder pads help signify rank, the blnde is a leutenant
Seahorse's hands look all messed up. And he is wearing slippers.
And the chicken looks abit random... Maybe less details or him will look better. The other guys look perfect to me.
EDIT:Ã, Tryed making chicken-guy cooler. Maybe not a good paintover, but still...

The humans look pretty boring/geeky.
But that might be a good thing.
The blonde dude looks like a brittish pessimist, sort of like C3PO.
Would be cool if he had a really nasal voice and always complained about things in an amusing manor. ;D
I'd suggest making the baldie into more of a pirate captain-style guy. Sort of like the "Yaarrr"-character in Simpsons. ;)
i tried to edit it too. im not a very good artist. but i like it.

Apart of the "very nice" it deserves (because I think it's very nice :)) same crits as yodaman11111 and Drawken:
Bearded needs some arm operations (Biceps bigger and shoulder displacement toward the right) and his feet angle needs to be increased (they are like this // || and they need to be like this \\ //). Same remark regarding blonde guy feet.
Hope it helps.
I think it's cartoon enough not to worry about proportions. I like the fact the forearms are thicker than the upper arms. I would focus more on making the shapes dynamic and interesting and lose some of the detail (double wrinkles on the clothing, etc). Varying the line thickness could make these sprites winners! (Like make the exterior lines thicker than the interior detail lines.)

I think the best thing you could do for these drawings is make them all 3/4 view. The bodies are in a 3/4 view more or less but the heads are then in profile. The bearded man suffers the most from this.
Also on the bearded man, his arm is attached to his upper body by a tiny little shoulder joint. It's ok to get rid of the space between his arm and body and just let it all overlap.
Overlap is also the keyword for the tentacle alien. His body is contorted in a really weird way and his anatomy just falls apart. In my drawing I let his body overlap his farthest arm and his left arm overlap his body. Then I tried pushing his shapes more. Really giving him a neck fin that stands out and has a shape to it.
The blonde man needs to have his head turned towards us and the space between the arm and the body thins him out a lot.
It kind of destroys any butt he may have, try drawing the body and then adding the arm that overlaps.
The bird lizard man is your best, in my opinion. He's got a lot of nice shapes to him. Again with turning his head to a 3/4 view and he's good to go.
The other thing is the feet. The foot that is closest to us, turn it out to point at the viewer a little. It will ground the body more and add a little bit of perspective to the body and he will look like he's standing on the ground.
The other drawings were just me messing about. I made a really quick and dirty version of the bird lizard and when I was making it I came across my last bit of advice.
You're going to have to edit the sprite a lot more when it's shrunken down and almost ready to be put in the game.
Mostly the eyes. Get rid of a lot of the greys in the eyes and make them bigger and brighter. We need to be able to see those eyes. Especially on the bearded man, they're totally lost on him. They don't need big anime eyes but they do need bigger more expresive eyes.
In my opinion.
Thank you very much MrColossal. hey I just made a joke without realising it. bird man, is a minor security personnel. but he's afraid all the time, namely he's CHICKEN. wow, my subconscious is a better comedian then I am. course he's not that good either. btw bird man only has one eye. and justynfeeney? dragon dude is wearing a monocule
MrColossal has done a great job.
Just one thing, the blonde guy right arm must be visible, even a little part.
It MUST be visible?
What if he's scratching his butt?
here is a redo of the captain, sitting in his captains chair. (http://www.2dadventure.com/ags/captain_sam_Mackenzie.gif) using many of the hints and tips provided
and here is another view of chicken man, as well as a new character. the reason for his different costume is he is the first of his species to leave his solar system his most honoured, and if and when he returns, will be hailed a hero, but he works on board as a janitor.

These are nice! Are you using artgem lo_res_man? ::)
