Hey,

I've been working on this yearbook lately. This is supposed to be a template of a characterization page. Each member of my grade will get one with a little bio on it. The text and pics are just placeholders. Right now, I'm kind of stuck, so I could definitely use some c&c on it.

So what do you think of it? Anything to improve it, to make it look more interesting?

Here is what I have so far:

I would suggest not having an image behind the text for readability, and to align the square shapes (at least the two black ones) would make it more stylish methinks...

Edit:

This is my fast suggestion. I put the name of the person whose page it is supposed to be in gray at the top. Don't be afraid of open space on the page. Try to think in lines when doing layout. Everything should be aligned to something else on the page to make the it feel symmetrical and pleasant to view. This also goes for the text, which should be aligned to both sides. I made another version where you can se my thought lines. The red line indicates an idea of a line that could be used, for example for text if you wanted a picture to the right or something... Just to make sure that it's visible that you are not limited to the border lines... Arrgh, I'm not sure if I make sense... Just some pointers though...

Sorry 'bout the lousy images, I'm at my parent's place and they only got paint and word. I'd normally use InDesign and paint shop pro....

As for the watermark, I don't know. Nearly every school/uni/club I know of puts their logo somewhere in the background, so I think that if it's supposed to look official, then leave it in (as long as that really is the logo. Otherwise scrap it.).

Just maybe less obvious?

And definitely re-arrange the boxes at the top. The displacement is really disturbing (for me at aleast).

And yes, a border of some sorts.

A nice looking page, though.

Thanks for all the quick replies. Keep them coming.
The water mark isn't really the logo, but it fits in the theme. The wohle page will of course be bigger (A4) and as it is right now the readabiltiy is quite alright in that size. As for the black boxes, they are supposed to be replaced with images like the one in the middle.
As for the border, I'm not quite sure what you mean. There are these gray borders on the right and at the bottom. Where should I put another one?

But I'll work on that watermark and re-arrange the pictures.
