I've never done anything like this before, so bear that in mind. : D

What do you think of it? I'm not sure if I'll end up editing it as I made the mistake of drawing it all on the one layer. Not the best of ideas. Nevertheless, it'll be nice to know if there's anything I can improve on at all, and I can keep them in mind if I draw like this again.

I really like the hair, it looks pretty damn cool :D

As a whole, it's a nice portrait picture. Especially good if you're just starting out with this "kind of stuff".

Now, onto the criticism ;)

She appears to be "melting" a little bit. Some of the shading, is slightly confusing and as a result her bones/muscles etc loose structure and strength underneath her skin. Her eyes seem to be scaled a little bit funny, and her chin isn't prominant enough for my tastes.

However, it's a very nice start and I look forward to seeing more from you in the future!

Thanks. : D

I completely agree about the skin, and I thought the eyes were a bit odd, too.

Neck still looks odd, but the chin's more prominent, and the eyes I lowered a little.

You've started in the wrong end of this portrait, I think.
You need to build up the face better, start with the basic shape, sketch up eyes, nose, mouth etc, and then start to "model" out the shape with shades and highlights.
Right now it looks like you randomly applied dark and bright areas without any real system.
