Feel free to criticise this background image.

Well I feel free, so:
1. It's too blurry. The edges of the green against the blue is in most peril.
2. It must have more fauna or something to break up the monotonous green color.
3. The sky is too bland. First of all you need to make a base gradient and then add texturing.
4. Add detail.
Um...it would help to know what the background is going to be used for. The sky looks very odd; real skies aren't mottled like that, and aren't that somewhat turquoise shade. Also, the mountain looks kind of strange; only very tall mountains tend to be that pointy, and those wouldn't be green all the way up. (There'd be bare patches, and almost certainly snow at the top.) But this is only a problem if this is supposed to be a scene on Earth. If it's supposed to be on another planet, or in some fantasy world, then the mottled sky and the green mountain may not be a problem.
There are still two other things, though, that occur to me:
- The scene looks very empty. If it is supposed to be on Earth, it could use some bushes and trees; even if it's not, some scattered rocks or alien vegetation or something would help to break up the monotony.
- More importantly...I don't see how characters are going to fit into this. Keep in mind that the horizon is generally at eye level, unless the viewer is standing on elevated or depressed ground. In this case, it looks like the ground is sloping upward toward the distance, which should just make the horizon significantly higher. This means that, to make sense in perspective, any (human-sized) characters appearing in this scene are going to have to be crammed along the bottom edge of the screen--which is going to make the scene look kind of weird and, again, empty.
Again, though, it would help to know what this background is going to be used for (is it just for a cut scene, or are characters going to be moving across it? How big are the characters? etc.) before much more can be said about it.
I was going to say what ildu and Alun_Crewe have said, only I'd have done it less eloquently.
Also, ildu. I think you mean Flora. Flora = plants, Fauna = animals.
Actually, it's NOT Earth. Far from it. Fauna is almost extinct after thousands of years of orn rule on the planet.
Other than that...
Thanks for criticism. I ammended the picture since my post, and I think it looks slightly better now.
Of course, I meant flora, not fauna. What was I thinking?

Am I right in thinking this was 3D - rendered?
The sky is totally the wrong color! It looks more like a Beverly Hills pool!
Btw, what's that grey thing at the bottom?
If you lived your entire life on Mes Wosman, you'd get used sky has this color - and regard BLUE as a wrong one.
The grey thing is - will be, after revamp - a rocky ledge overlooking the grassy plateau.
And you're right - it was originally a 3d render, though reworked in GIMP.
Please use the modify link rather than double posting.
The image is decent enough ... if a bit empty (as was mentioned). Adding some shrubs, rocks, etc. would really tie it all together.
The black dots (foreground area) look out of place given the detail of the mountains/plains.
Perhaps if the black dots were a dark[er] green?
The sky is bothering me. Not so much the colour (even though it's an unrealistic one) but mostly the texture. The wobbly texture makes it look like the sky is a giant piece of dented paper put behind the hill.

why is everyone so disturbed with the sky? It looks fine for what it is (atmosphere of an alien planet). I'd suppose that it is some smokey, cloudy chlorine or something.
If you cant handle a little criticism you shouldn't post on CRITICISM board. I personally don't think there is that much wrong with the sky it just seems to be distorted alien clouds but you have to not take things so personal.
Edit: Sorry I didn't realize Barbar wasn't the one who started this. But I agree it looks fine for an alien planet or even a very bad storm approaching.
Babar isn't the original poster. :P

The problem is that it doesn't look like smoke or clouds. The texture is way too fragmented for that.
