Title: Professor Neely character redesigns for possible sequel
Post by: sonicrumpets on Fri 08/04/2011 08:51:36
Hi everyone I would really like some input on these Professor Neely redesigns. I’d like the next game to look hand drawn and that calls for a style change.
Mainly I want to know which one you think is the strongest and if you’d like to see anything changed or if it’s just too different.
If you think one part would look better on another let me know. E.G.: Option 1’s glasses on option 2’s head ect.

Yes I do know that they are all fairly similar but I wanted a second opinion before I made a call on what I do with him as it effects the style of everything else.

Number 2 looks rather generic and boring. I'd like to see number 3 with number 1 glasses or the other way round. Now there is either round head and round glasses or square head with square glasses.

I prefer the first as for me he seems most like the original but in the different style.

I too like #1 best.
#2 is indeed somewhat generic and boring and #3... well, he reminds me of Asterix. ::)

I prefer the 3rd one, his design is a bit more understated and mature. The first one is very nice too, but he seems a bit too cute (adorkable?) and not sophisticated enough to me.  Good stuff, anyway!

Seconded! I'd vote for #3 too, the first looks way too cute for my taste.

I wouldn't say #2 looks boring or generic, but like a completely different character.

I like #1 most, and concerning the "too cute" look, maybe it helps if the moustache points down like in the other versions instead of twisting upwards?

I prefer Prfessor Neely a bit “roundish” and cute, so I like  #1 most (and because he is nearest to the original).

#3 could be his brother and and #2 another related (i.e. colour his hair and he may be his son).

I can imagine, those three will do a lot of "booooom"-bastic experiments together  ;D

I like the current one, because it looks like your typical anti-hero.
However, what I'd criticise (and is not visible here) is the very stiff animation, that pretty much ruins the character design.
Also if you recall I was complaining about the lack of diagonal views for the isometric game sequence.

Hey every one thanks for your opinions they’ve been very helpful :)

So General consensus seems to be some combination of 1 and 3.
I thought 2 was going to be popular but I’m really glad I posted them all because he wasn’t anyone’s favorite ( Including mine)

I’ll redesign him again and post what I come up with here when I get a chance.

I totally agree with you on this one, the animation was totally sub pare compared to the quality of the game and the lack of diagonal views looked very odd in places.

I don’t want a repeat of the first game if I do this and I want the animation to be much better, It will be either drawn by hand or in flash (probably a combo of both) and use all 8 directions.

and use all 8 directions.

I really only meant they're necessary if you do isometric sequences again. Otherwise you're fine with 4.

Thank you all for your input and sorry it’s been so long in between posts.  I have settled on a design I like for Neely But Would like your input on these Egore and  Dr. Spliner redesigns.
Yes there are some young Spliner designs for a possible flash back.
