Bonjourno, y'all..
A quick update:
So, I'm back for a few days after being pretty much netless for 4/5 months.
My main game, Lump City is going well, with most of the sprites and backgrounds done, needing only embellishment and the like.
Mortal RONbat is being a pain, altho the first pack should be ready in a month or so. It'll have four chars, a couple of bg's and a nifty loader/intro program.
I've quit boozing, am on nicotine gum and have lost some weight. My hair is currently red. My band's now has an EP, and in a couple of days, a website too (where you can buy the EP (please)..).
Anyhow, I had an idea a week or two ago, and went a little something like this:
"The Red Dwarf movie ain't going to be ready for ages. I like Red Dwarf. I like games. Red Dwarf.. Games.. I wonder who invented liquid soap, and why? I know, a Red Dwarf game.."
And so:

Opinions?
Should I bother?
Hugs
Iqu
Also, plot shouldn't be too hard, due to all the material in books that never made it into show. Often, the books were funnier.
EDIT:
For those that don't know what Red Dwarf is..

You should bother, those images look great!
SOOOOOOOOOO cute! :P
Even if you decide not to make a game you should definately do SOMTHING with those images. They're far too good to waste.
I think you should...
The pictures look great, I think you should go for it.
What would be the plot, if you did make it?
Great idea, iqu. I would definitely play a Red Dwarf game. And you're pics are a good start!
Hehehe, he's got his thermos...
Seriously, that would be the coolest thing ever. I would definatley play a Red Dwarf game!
A Red Dwarf game would be awesome! :D
I think you should do it.
If the movie does well they'll probably release a game anyway and it'll have like 30 levels of non-stop action, with fifteen weapons from Lister's socks to super-bazookoids and ther'll be GELFs coming from every direction and you've got to shoot them and aslo jump over like really big gaps...
So my answer is yes.
I'm not a great lover of fan games, but somehow I think Red Dwarf could work really well.
*Please* include a sequence where you get to use the VR console, and play Streets of Laredo.
You should get to play all the different characters, including Duane Dibley. And the game must include the phrase 'Smoke me a kipper I'll be back for breakfast' and the word smeg in the title. Please.
Looks great! Go for it!
I love that Starbug sprite. It's so pretty and smooth.. Mmmmmm..
One suggestion: Make the characters bigger. I'd like to see their faces..
Where's mister Lister?
The plot.. undecided as yet.. i'm going to re-read the books and re-watch the show and start brainstorming ideas.
I'm thinking of having the character you play, as Lister. Playing as everyone is probly a bit out of my league.
The Streets of Laredo thing, yea and Better Than Life in the VR thing..
I'm thinking of setting it during season six, where they're still trying to find the Dwarf. I do wanna get Ace Rimmer in, and probly the GELF's and maybe a Polymorph.. hence the Duayne Dibbley character. (I would've put up a pic of the Cat, but I can't get him looking snazzy enough, yet. Also, he'll need numerous costume changes).
I want to trying and do a Backwards style bit, but that needs a bit more thought.
Making the characters larger? Hmm.. I'm aiming for 320x200 at the moment, so I'm not sure. Also, the larger they are, the more you'll notice my lack of skill. I'll put that on the maybe list, tho.
Where's Lister? The first character is Lister. Since he's facing front, you can't his dreadlocks, but the outfit does match the one from the show.. I had to keep referring to it. He needs a bit more detail, it's true.
The Starbug sprite's actually a plan for part of a background, where it's more off in the distance. I'll probly knock up some cutscenes of it flying around and stuff. The thing that bothers me about it, is i had to gradient it, as well as paint on the shadows, other wise it looked all iffy. I need more practice at spherical objects.
I'm not sure which Holly to use, tho. I can't see a plot twist working that would allow me both.. yet. So, in the mean time, Norman Lovett or Hattie Hayridge?
Hugs

Deffinatley Iqu, go ahead and make this game. It will rawk. I think Red Dwarf would work brilliant as an adventure game. Taking into account the tv programme, a lot of the comedy was in what was said rather than done (altho yes, there were plenty of hillarious moments)
Good stuff, great images! And if you need great music...
Ask N3TGraph. :p
If you set the game in series six, Holly won't be involved, as she/he was on board Red Dwarf when it got stolen.
Good luck, though, I look forward to it.
GO 4 IT!!!
Plz include Dwane Dibley. DWANE DIBLEY!?
Don't be a smmmmmmmmeeeeeeeeeee hhhhhhhhheeeeeeeeaaaaaaaaaddddddddddddd.
I did a search on some Red Dwarf stuff on google after I read this thread and came across some interesting stuff.
There were 2 failed US pilot episodes of a Red Dwarf USA. Jane Leeves (Daffney from Fraiser) was Holly for the first, which also had Lewelyn (sp?) reprising his role as Kryten.
The second kept many of the same actors, but instead of a male Cat, it had Terry Farrell (Reggie from Becker, and Dax from DS9) as a female version of Cat.
It's got nothing to do with the game or anything, but I thought it was interesting and cool... ;)
Anyway, Iqu... goodluck with the game. :)
Man, red dwarf USA would rock... I guess I just have to find it once in awhile on PBS...
Still most favorite episode is where cat figures out that Lister is his "god"
My favourite has The Rimmer Experience. Can't remember the episode name though.
Red Dwarf USA? Blech! It would probably be in the same caliber of the Coupling USA remake, which was almost word for word from the original BBC version, yet sucked ass and only lasted three episodes. You can't remake TV shows just because they're from a different country, it just doesn't work.
Blech!
Heh, they did the same with Men Behaving Badly. The USA version sucked ass.
But then again, the UK took Whos the Boss and made a version of it, using the same dialogue (just a few things changed to make it more british), and even used the same camera angles and same style set. It was a joke.
My favourite episode of Red Dwarf has to be either Back to Reality, or Stasis Leak.
Smeeeeeeeggghhh Heeeeeede - Kryten trying to curse
Stoke me a clipper, I'll be be back for christmas - Rimmer As Ace Rimmer
I love the Dibbley character. In fact, I love the whole series. I NEVER get to watch it anymore, since BBCAmerica won't play it. :( I think Kryten looks like he got something stuck up his robotic bum, (he looks like he's been goosed) but the others are great. It took me a second to notice Lister, maybe he needs his leather hat (I remember it from the episode where he was training Kryten to be bad)
Perhaps the plot twist could be that they (again) get all mixed up with the alternate universe, (have a joke with Kochanski about making Lister a brother or two). Maybe they can get something like Holly XP - Starbug edition. :) Heck, they got rid of Rimer's greatest limitation (he's solid now), he's practically human again.
Please keep up with it.
Watching 'Gunmen of the Alpothycplse' ;D
The game mustnt forget the simulants.

Watching 'Gunmen of the Alpothycplse' ;D
Is that the one where they explained Kennedys assasination? :P
Nah, that's the one where they have to stop that virus, so they end up in Kryten's brain as cowboys.
May I ask a question about this?
Do you actually plan on writing your own scripts or are you copying odd and sods from the series.
During conversations, you'll need to include a lot of quick funny lines. IE
Rimmer to holly:
"You're about as much use as a condom machine in the Vatican"
And you should include Rimmer and his directive numbers which he keeps getting wrong.
Sorry I didn't mean to petronize you.
::)
