Here's the new design for the Wistan (main character) in my Tanglewood game.
Here is the old walk-cycle:

I don't have a walk cycle for the new one yet, I'm trying to learn some new animation software but you can have a look see and critique the model still. I've put him into a pose here so you can see him in something otherr than a t-stance, I realize it isn't the greatest pose.

Hey Stu! Whatcha up to?Ã, :D
I like your walk cycle, the only little thingÃ, I would change would be his feet, make it so that his toes bend when they touch the floor, that's about it. Great animation! I'm still struggling with my main character's look so it will be a while 'till I get him walking around the room.
Those 3D character models are UBER NICE (gee, had to use that word, I sound like a n00b ::) )!! Since your backgrounds are very realistic and detailed to begin with, it should be fairly easy to intergrate your character into the game. I like that kneeling pose... like he is kneeling before his king to be knighted!
As always, Stu, great artwork!
At a guess i would say the first model was made (and "rendered" even though its not actually rendered) in Milkshape 3d (The most almighty modeling prog on the face of the earth) But your right, its animation wasnt the greatest in the world, and it wasnt the easiest prog to acheive good results. The new model looks a lot better, cleaner and more detailed.
Only crits on it would be he has a paper thick wrist, so fix that.
What program u use for the latest one?
Great work - Rich
Coffee,
Well, like I said, I'm throwing out this walk cycle so it doesn't really matter...switching over to all 3D characters so that I can have more animations and keep them all consistent. I'm also not sure if any of those backgrounds I painted will make it into the final game! I might re-do it all in 3D as I am getting continuously better (but if I do...I'll still be painting the textures).
I'm really happy that the character looks good to you...I've been working hard the last couple days to get everything to "come together" in a way that works...but I'm not done yet because I still have to get it working in my animation program.
DontTread,
The first character was drawn by hand, using a series of skeletal walking leg bone images as reference. No rendering involved, so I'm not sure what you mean!!
The second char is 3D, but modelled in Silo (not Milkshape)...which is MY favorite modeller on the planet.
Cell-shading 3D backgrounds will refine your game, I will admit. I especially like the details you have in your objects, like the golden amulet on your game thread. Everthing is coming together nicely.
...waiting patiently for that demo!Ã, ;)
Thank you. Well I've busted my ass today and managed to get the rigging and everything working together and also managed to get my hands on a bunch of motion capture data so I should have pretty good realistic movements ;D Well, still going to be a while for that walkcycle...my computer takes about 6 hours just to walk through the walk-cycle in the display editor, argh....I need a few more GB...but here is a shot from mid-walk hehe

i would turn down the specularity on the skin material, and the tights material. also the hands look a bit pancaked. the thumb should be extruded from the side and also the inside palm area.
if what neutron said means make it less shiny, i agree. Also, the forhead is too big,
Yep, you're right. I'll go back and make the geometry and textures nicer. I just sort of slapped all that together in a couple hours.
