Title: Rubix cube
Post by: Armageddon on Fri 04/03/2011 23:14:06
Any ideas on how to make my rubix cube look better? I'm not happy with the top. ???

It's an inventory item so it has to stay that size. I'll probably use it in the background like this, or a bigger one.

That's because you're working at pixel level. You need to draw "non-trivial" diagonal lines, that is lines that don't match exactly the pixels they go through. the result is awkward-looking diagonals, that end up causing optical illusions.

I'd recommend :
- using anti-aliasing when you draw your lines (and cross fingers, hoping the apparent pixel correction will fix the optical illusions)
OR
- choosing the exact angle that will make the lines look good.
OR
- draw the cube slightly larger to avoid optical illusions

The fact that some faces are dark and some others are light doesn't hep with optical illusions (it makes some squares appear bigger)

Honestly it doesn't look that bad, at that size I don't think it's critical.  But...the back squares on the top of the cube are larger than the ones in the front.  Also noticed the middle box is like, larger than the rest of them...it's just weird.   Pixels are tricky.  You just need to watch your convergence.

I think I got it better, the top looks even now, but the bottom point it kinda strange.

I wish I knew how to shade... :(

I think it looks a lot better now.  All the lines are really evenly space, it's much better.  My only suggestion now would be to chop off the white pixel at the bottom....it looks funky and nobody will miss it.

I remade it one last time, I think it's perfect now, but one last thing, is the black too over-whelming?

I think it looks great, yo.  The black doesn't bother me.

It depends. If all your other inventory items are with black outlines too, then it's ok.
