Title: Rust C&C
Post by: Sadistyk on Sun 17/09/2006 23:31:47
Does this look rusty to you?

Not quite.
The rust should be darker, more saturated, and sort of grainy.
Other than that, great background!

No, but not necessarily because of the rendering.
It looks more like a model with paint splashed on. The rest of the room looks remarkably clean and shiny too.
I think if the rust was more streaked and spotty, rather than splashed, it would look better.

I think the main thing that throws it off aside from the color is the location.  Typically you'll find rust in areas exposed to the elements- those grates for example.  Right now you have the rust circling all around the grate when it should be the opposite.  The grate should be rusty, some rust on the wall from drippings, etc.  The color is also sandy rather than rust colored, it needs a reddish-brown color.  Use much less rust and it will look more convincing.  I like the general room layout and design, nice work!

Here is a messy edit to give you some ideas.

1.  Really quickly removed the large scale rust.

2.  Added rust to the vents and beneath the door and made the rust eat through part of the vent and the wall.

I like ProgZmax's version better. Rust is dark red/brown and I wouldn't expect to see it in such large scale in the room - one or two areas of highlight should do the trick. But I think the rust should be grainier as well. I did a rather quick edit to show:

The rust I did is in the top right hand corner. I left the rest of the edit untouched.

I don't know... the room looks so perfect aside from the rusty areas. I think the rust should cover the walls a bit more but be quite faint.

This is a pretty bad attempt at showing what I mean.

Thanks for the idea SergioCornaga, but I think the room it's exactly like I wanted it. But the idea is great, maybe I'll use it on other rooms.
