following miezs tutorial - http://screen7.adventuredevelopers.com/foy/tutorial1.htm

ofcourse no where as good, or detailed but i think its a good start - used PS entirely for the whole thing, first time ive done that as im not too comfortable in using it.

Quite happy with it, apart from its really empty, and my choice of colours isnt too good

Thanks! :)

HillBilly

The boat seem flat. Except from that, I love it.

lovely...I dig the reflections in the water...good job...I agree with hillbilly though...
Pantomime players are the root of all evil.

The jetty's reflection goes behind the mountain.. Seems really wrong.. ;D

I have a little problem with the perspective of the scene. If you compare the size of the boat in the foreground with the size of the boats by the pier it would seem that the water behind the mountain is higher up than the water in front of it. Either you have to make the boat smaller or you have to hide more of what is behind the mountain. Personally I would go with option number one, because you have a good composition in the image already. Hope this makes sense.  ;)

That assumes that they are the same boats, whereas the smaller ones are meant to be small fishing boats, the larger one being something like a warship

I was wondering about that too. Aren't the sails a bit simple for a big warship?
Oh and the boats by the pier look a bit like buoys (albeit massive ones :) )

Love the sky btw.

Whee, nice job custeh! I like the upper left corner of the background more, it looks really good. Maybe you could try using a bit darker colours for the shading. Also, add some more details, like trees, bushes etc.

Keep it up :)

I really like the looks of this background.  Good composition, great skyline, and nice reflections on the water.  I think the biggest imporvement it needs right now is more contrast.. The mountains look very flat, and more shading on the lower parts and inside that cleft would really make it jump out.

Another thing I noticed is that the peninsula with the dock looks kind of unnatural, almost like it's man-made.

Sam.

I'm not sure what it is. I really like it i just ... it looks a bit flat to me. like scnery placed on a stage. could do no better but i jut thought my opinion might help..
Bye bye thankyou I love you.
