OK i've been experimenting with a programme called google sketch up and have tried creating one of my backgrounds with it. This isn't finished as you can probably tell but i would like your opinion on it and wheather it looks good or not. i will probably add details using some sort of paint programme

i know you guys have seen this background so many times before but if you think this looks good then i'm goin to do all my backgrounds like this

EDIT: Old version:

Sean

I prefer the old style, it has more character.

It feels more... fun.

The new image, is too "clean" and "orderly" for my tastes. Both look good, but unless you can mix em together.. I'd say stick with the old :)

That's a good idea... draw on top of it and see how that comes out. If nothing else, it would make perspective loads easier.

BTW: I know of a few people who use this. Personally, I use Caligari TrueSpace, but I'd be interested to know how easy this is to use.

Sketchup is very easy to use, if a little unwieldy at times. I'm another one who's using it to model my backgrounds.

However, that said, I think in this case I prefer the old version. Sketchup is cool but it's not for the cartoony style, which as Sean pointed out has more character when it's done the old way.

thanks guys, i'll continue with the old style then. i was just experimenting thats all :D thanks for the comments. i might try drawing on top of the 3d image at some point but i can't be botherd at the moment. im bit sick of this background :D

Stupot

I think the new style looks ok but would look a bit silly with 2d sprites walking ever the top of it.  And theres nothing really wrong with the old style, anyway.
