Well, I have never done sprites, I am more of a nature and non-living focused guy.Ã,  Anyways tell me what you think.Ã,  I know the wrinkles look a bit funny, I am messing with that.Ã,  Mostly I just wanted to see if other people thought it was a bit bland also.
(edit: I just noticed the feet on the away facing char still has the forward feet :P oops)

That's Very good!  I like the style, and he's a cute little science type.  Will he be a mad scientist?

What a loser.

Indeed pretty cool sprite. Have you got a walk cycle to show us?

RocketBoy

I think the white outfit allow us to focus on the face and the glasses, which is a good thing! If you really want something to show how messy he is, I would use some stains (you could go for the classics: blood if he's evil and green goo if he's good) instead of wrinkles. Otherwise, this is really nice sprite!

There is something disturbingly wrong with that sprite. I can't quite place it though. Perhaps his feet are too small?

A quick p/o of the front view with some generic green stains :P

One thing I noticed is that his feet look exactly the same in the front and back views which looks really wierd.

Edit: Never mind, you already noticed :)

Edit 2: Looking at it again I've made him look kinda wierd and podgy  :-\

LilBlueSmurf

I think he might be to tall, I am gonna mess with shortening the coat and legs, or just make his feat stick out or something, but I think that is what is making him look odd, might mess with the arms a bit too, seem a bit too bowed now that I look at it again.  Thanks for the c&c so far :)

LilBlueSmurf

Okay, I am switching to 640x400 so I started redoing this character.  I only have the front view so far, and am going to do it a bit more cartoony looking (flater, bit less detail, more contrast)  Anyways, tell me what you think.  I'm diging this one better than the smaller one.

Tiki

He's looking good, but too symmetrical.  There needs to be at least some small differences between the two sides, specifically the arms.  They can possibly stay in the same general pose, but if you don't just flip one side over to the other, it'll look much better.

In my opinion, the outlines don't look very consitent.  There are black outlines, then there are colored outlines.  My advice is to stick to one or the other, but it may work the way it is.

While some simple shading wouldn't hurt, I suppose isn't necessary.

You've done a good job already!

LilBlueSmurf

Yeah, actually I didn't have the time to do what I wanted to, and am going to fix it when I get the chance, but put this up for some kinda prelim feedback in case people notice something major (the outlines is major, but not ment to be that way) When done, the only black outline will be around the whole sprite, nothing on the inside.  So this isn't really an idle pose, just a wip.  And if anyone has a link to a nice generic idle pose I would appreciate it, I have a feeling when I get to actually animating this and creating the idle pose, I may have some problems.

calacver

that's a very good sprite for a first time. Very good! You could give him wilder hair :)

LilBlueSmurf

Okay, after a lot of redo, I ended up deciding to just to black outlines on everything for the most cartoony look possible, although it can make things odd.  Anyways, I redid a whole bunch of the sprite and am looking for some good crits again.  The arms look a little odd to me, but I've been staring at it for a long time so, hopefully they are okay.  Also there is no shading at all on purpose, might add some but I doubt it, mostly just because it is going to save me alot of time later on and this is likely going to end up a solo project.

First off, I think it's a great sprite. If it was mine though, I'd eliminate the "belt" looking thing in the back -- it's not appearing in the front, and even if it did, it'd start to look like a bathrobe/ housecoat.

I'm also not liking his hands from the back view... From the front view they're okay, but they may look better without the brownish part in the middle.

But as I said, I think it's a fantastic looking geeky scentist sprite! (heck, even the first rendition gwas pretty darn cool) GREAT job!

RoboPenguin

I must say, I prefered the earlier version (v2). Exept for the feet, those look better now
For a start the shading was alot better in v2 and also he looks a little too thin around the waist, as if he's wearing a corset. :S

Still, it's an awesome sprite!
