well, here's both my first room and first character design. i still have to make the othe views of the characters and make some walking animations.

any comments/criticisms/suggestions would be appreciated
also, if any one can help animate some walk cycles for this character i'd be forever grateful
probably planning on using this character in a game. hes sort of an eccentric magic user (i hate the term "wizard").

p.s. this room was just a test, really, not an actual room that i would probably ever use in a game, due to the lack of good shading, would clash too much with the character artwork.
edit:
here's a higher resolution version of the old man character, hope you like it...

this would be used for closeups in dialogue and such.
Yeah, he seems too realistic to fit into that world, unless it was a dream, then it would work well.
I don't understand why the door would cast a shadow, though.
honestly, i have absolutely no idea why the door would cast a shadow. its silly really. but the room just looked awfully dull without it.

i suppose it saves money on a doormat...
that guy kinda looks like he could be a mexican relative of Leisure Suit Larry's...
I like the style, both the room and the character are fairly unique.
Suggestions:
if there's something interesting in the room, light could be coming out from under the door instead of shadow (or animated flashing lights as if some experiment were going on).
The style's good but inconsistent. There are thick lines and thin ones, fine details and few details.. I would suggest picking either a vaguer style or a sharper style and going with that one for everything. The result of the style mixture is that the char clashes with the background. There's something else that is gnawing at my brain about the image but I can't put my finger on it. Anyway.. originality is good and you've skill enough to put it to use.. go for it.

so, yeah, i realize the background and the character don't work together. i only put them together here so i could show off both of them without creating two separate threads.
but im interested to know what else is "gnawing at your brain." let me know if you figure it out.
and thanks for all the comments everybody, especially YakSpit, very helpful :)
