Its a very good start, and would make a good screen for credits.

perhaps as the credits finish, the sun would set, and the colors of the sky would darken.... i dunno. it would be a nice animation

it looks like you used a gradient to make the sky.

if my assumption is correct, i shall give you the following piece of advice:

NEVER EVER EVER USE GRADIENTS!

EVER!

Really though, they generally come out looking pretty crappy.  If you went back and did the sky by hand with a little more texture (and maybe some light clouds?) it would look a lot better.  The rest of the picture looks nice though.  Maybe add a little more texture (i.e. waves, etc.) and color to the water to make it look a little more realistic.

Umm... whats your problem with gradients?   I think it looks nice.

Gradients are fine if used properly and not abused, i think ive used a gradient quite well, at least i didnt do this :p

(http://www.btinternet.com/~ctswin/gradient.png)  If i had done that, i would agree with you :p

while i think there is probably a time and a place for everything (including gradients), i think it doesnt fit well with the rest of this picture.  that may just be my opinion, but i am entitled after all.  this picture shows definite promise, so keep up the good work!

you might be right, however, you could have just said that in the first place instead of never use gradients :)

im perfectly happy with the 2 pieces of land in the foreground but will continue to work on the sea and sky

The gradient woks perfectly in this pic.  One gradient is usually fine, especially for large areas like sky..  but since the glow is coming from the sun making the gradient a bit more radial might look better..

the sea looks fine, but remember the colour is coming from the reflection of the sky, it'd be nice to get some of the blue/purple reflected nearer the front and at the side I think.

Gradients are fine when used right, I don't know what people's problem is.. lens flare, now that's something there really is no use for ;)

now, i don't know how to make a perfect horizon, but i can't see the problem with yours honestly!

I agree gradients are fine. Lucas-Arts used them all the time! BTW great pic.

Hey, it looks very good! And I think gradient works well. This picture made me want to work with Blurred Line more... ;)

I added some info in the Isle Thing thread on how I made my sea. Although I think my way works better with more close up views.
