Hey guys, I need somebody to critique a couple of backrounds/screen shots. Umm if you want to get in the link you'll have to use Internet Explorer. I don't know why but Firefox wouldn't let me go into the link. A brief summary of my goal is i want my backrounds to have an epic Sierra feel. Thanks.

P.S It's a slide show so click play when you get there.

I don't think the Romans used decimals, so saying III.V wouldn't really be right. Perhaps you can say "III and a half"? It could be a sort of joke...maybe.
Also, Sierra backgrounds didn't really used blur, so if you want to emulate them, I'd suggest you tone it down a little.

The bgs are pretty good. THey look too modern to be Sierra style though. I agree, don't use blur.

To be brutally honest, they look pretty bad. Aside from the ripped graphics, I see whatt looks like blobs of color blended together with photoshop wet brushes and then blurred to an extent where I'm supposed to guess it looks right.

I don't mean to be rude, but that's what I see. If you want to emulate VGA Sierra PnC style, you should spend ALOT of time studying Sierra's artwork. There are a few links on this board that will get you some tutorials and such. I'd suggest learning a bit about color, too. And even studying nature photography and how light works. Sierra's backgrounds often looked real, and if I am not mistaken I think some games were used real oil paintings as a base for the background art.

My advice? Go for your own style... It's very hard to live up to the standards and expectations from a company of hundreds of full-time artists and programmers.

There is a really awesome, step-by-step photoshop tutorial for making Sierra-style backgrounds  here (http://www.corbydesigns.com/forest/).

If you notice, after he lays out the color and blurs it all to heck, he's only halfway done. ;)

Well thankyou for your very diverse critisisms. It will give me something to think about. And by the way I am going to strive for a epic Sierra backround, and as you said I should do a little more studying of sierra art. Besides of got alot of years to practice, i'm only fourteen. Anyway if someone else would still like to post they are more than welcome.

I'd like to see what you can come up with after studying some sources for a while, I think you have good potential.
