Hey there, I'm very slowly starting to make my first game, and this is my first decent sprite I have made. I am very new to this so I would like some critique and suggestions on it, especially proportions, and the hands.

Thanks!
To be honest this is perfect especially for your first game.
The style is clean and has a sexy cartoon feel to it, depending on the games story or style this would be perfect.
Hi there!
It looks very decent indeed. A nice cartoon, reminding sligthly about Manny in "Grim Fandango". However, i might suggest drawing circles instead of squares for the eyes. You could also try to make his hands a little thiner as i think they look more like "living" hands if you get my point. Also, you could consider using other colors than just black for the outlines. (It, usually doesn,t look all that good.) Otherwise I think it,s really nice. Good luck with your game. :)
Yeah we can say remove the black outlines and use atleast three shades of the color on every piece, but sometimes simpler is better. In this case I think everything just works well together.
Thanks a lot for the feedback guys, I really appreciate it.
I have thought about removing the outline and adding some depth, I actually started trying that, but I really wanted to get the shape first at least.
As of now, with the resolution and outline I can't get the hands to look any more like bones, nor can I get the eyes round. But of course with shading and no outline I would have alot more pixels to work with. I'll probably try it today and see how it turns out.
I do like how it is now, but I always think a bit more work can make things look even better!
Any thoughts on the pant width and length, or the torso? Arm length?
Had a go at it:

Low colour oldschool shading and outlining!
Thanks for the input m@ds, I really like the more yellow bone colour, I might try something like that. Those eyebrows are pretty comical, but it doesn't fit the character of the story I have.
Here's my attempt at some shading, I also think I have the hands looking less like claws and more like bones:

Edit: I shaded and coloured the bones a more realistic colour like m@ds. Pretty happy with this guy now.
Looks nice, you pulled off the jawbone nicely, whenever I draw a skull I always have difficulty making the jawbone connect to the rest of the skull
Hey, he's nice now!
However, It seems to me like he is going to sit on a toilet or something like that.
Otherwise, he's cool man!
( Your first game will be a high-res one ? )
Great improvement with your second version.
I have some suggestions:
(Sorry for it's size)

1) original sprite
2) legs moved to a bit more comfortable position
3) he had big shoulders for someone that skinny, fixed that
4) the head is about to be edited next so it's palette got drawn out and shading flattened to a mid value (it was pillow shaded before - pillow shading explained >here< (http://rw.rmxp.org/index.php?title=Pillow_Shading&printable=yes&printable=yes).)
5) -merged some colors together since their values were so close
-took a skull image from google with the lightsource above it for reference and shaded accordingly
6) Quick pose example (not sure it fits his personality, though)

Thanks so much for that Damien, it looks amazing! I agree with the shoulders and legs (Oliwerko you're right about stance haha!). The skull looks awesome now, thanks for explaining pillow-shading, I'll try not to do that anymore.
You don't mind if I use what you've done, right?
And I think my first game will be 640x480.

I don't mind, feel free to use it.
Good luck with your game.
