Hi guys, here's a NPC that helps quite a lot in the second location of my game. Before I have the sprite made I really want to give him some eyes as he just looks too scary and a bit too undead here when in fact he's a helpful young boy that wishes in vain to be a hero lol.

I've tried myself but really don't know what to do as they look out of place when I try. Any suggestions and paintovers are welcome
This is just a very rough sketch btw for the sprite artist to get a feel for what he should look like.
I really like that guy. But looks like a lunatic rather than a helpful guy. Whatever, I made him some eyes, perhaps you like it. He's looking a bit friendlier now, at least less undead.

By the way, you'r always writing "to" instead of "too" (undead, scary..) ;)
These are the same kind of eyes I gave him and I think it looks weird lol. Kinda looks like he's been drinking coffee all night, thanks though. Yeah the fact he looks a little odd will be part of the joke lol.
He's cool. I say stick with your eyes. Just saying. Overall i like it.
Then what about something like that:

And if he should look really nice, just add a line :):

Thanks that's more the direction I was thinking, appreciated Mr. Matti.
I liked the first sketch Mr. Matti did. You could make that sprite so his (its? ;D) eyes fall out every so often (while he stands in place or something) and then he pushes them back into his head.
Lool that's a great idea actually anian I might use it.
I prefer the first sketch. If he is actually a zombie, that is.
I also prefer your first one, it really has a lot of character!
If you want to have some kind of eyes, you could take the DEATH (read with an intonation as if each letter is a falling tombstone) approach:

Like this you can even convey some emotion.
Is he wearing a mask or something? Is that why his face is a different colour to his hands and neck?
Hmm, Mad, then you might go with something a bit more glowy, almost cyan colour, that'll make it really creppy. I stand by my original comment those eyes (and with no mouth) Matti first did remind me of burtonesque undead and in my book that's good thing.
But yeah I think it's mask cause it's not same colour. Also as the "undead", a bit more dust and scraps on the clothes would add to the character. Btw I like the shading.
I like Mr Matti's second edit (with the big eyes). :) It looks zombie enough and it's kind of cute in a strange zombie-way. :) You can always add a mouth that's like sewed up to the face.
I'm confused as to whether he's supposed to be a zombie or not.

Which makes me think that he's not supposed to be a zombie?
Well Huds, he DID say he was cool with having one of the eyes fall out from time to time, and the subject of this thread is 'Sleepy Zombie Kid'. ;D
I think the "too undead" comment was more of a comment on how creepy and rotten he looks.
I kinda like the glowing eye effect Mad did, I would have used a glowy red, or maybe a yellow since red is kind of evil(no offense to anyone who's mother is a red crayola crayon).
Thanks Mad I really like that idea actually works really well.
And yeah he is a zombie he's just a zombie with a twist lol.
Well... OK then. :P
I also think it looks like a mask. Looks a little like a babyversion of Jason Voorhees :D I really like it though
You're right it kind of does lol
