I decided not long ago to make a remake of a game I once made, Mountain. Since there's going to be a lot of snow in the game I thought I would try and make it look good.
Here is the attempt, using the tips I had in the adventure related talk and chat.

I'd like critic on the snow mostly but any other critic would be great.

Well, actually it looks more like a cloud at the moment. The snow line blurs out too much. Also, does the barbed-wirew end at the left-most pole or should it continue?

Peter Thomas

Another thing to add to that: the poles don't look like they are buried in snow. They look like they have been placed on TOP of the snow.

Normally you see snow sort of lying in heaps around the base of the pole, clinging in little clumps to the wood. I can't really explain it, but I think you know what I mean,

Apart from that, great screenie.
Peter: "Being faggy isn't bad!"
AGA: "Shush, FAG!"

Moox

and the area where the poles are submerged could be translucent

Pft!

Try and add a bit more texture and shadding. Not too much just a faintly.  8)

The snow actually looks alright to me.  Since it's daytime in the scene I might suggest adding a little light blue to the snow, but other than that I could definately tell that it was snow.

The cloud howerver ... unless there's something 'special' about it and it's supposed to look like that, I would suggest working on that a little ... just feathering the edges might be enough, but it sure doesn't look 'billowy' to me.

Other than that, I like the scene.

I guessed you were portraying a cliff edge, so I roughed sharpeded it up a little and added shadow. And mounds of snow on the poles.

You might want to put a few more mountains in were the sky is.
Ah! There is no emoticon for what I'm feeling!

For doing snow, as Darth suggested, I always find that slight blueish or purplish tint helps a lot for some reason.

And that cloud looks a bit like a small animal's brain to me...

This scene needs much, MUCH more contrast.
My eyes, they burn.

I've also been trying to get a snow setting right before starting the snow backgrounds for my game..

won't image it so you don't have to see it if you don't want to ;)

Yes I can see the slight tint of blue in the snow on the ground puddin,

Alpha: More detail in the wood maybe and you might want to smudge the snow around the poles... Cliff=wind=snow being pushed around=smudged  ;D

Puddin: I like that!  :)
