I was wondering if I should throw away this attempt, or do you think it would in any way be potential and then worth finishing. Yes, it is done with Paint, pixel by pixel... there are things I like, and ones I don't.
The thing is, I'd need some ideas to fill the "village" with. If not then it'll face the destiny of a rotten banana...ehm... ok, whatever, you get the point.

Ok the story went as this... the character got fired from the factory he was working at, and went wondering in the kingdom... in this "village" he would live, though the first mission was to find his home, as he had forgotten where it was... (yeah, it's called being the only one to laugh at your own jokes :D)
Sooooo.. I'd appreciate some critics and all... Thanks...
Wow this looks excellent ... You should definitely finish!
Diggin' the style man, diggin' it!
it looks good, man finish it!!!
Well that does it! I'm on it again... just that, I screwed up my ags. And somehow I forgot all about the program... And can't get the original GUI working either. "Don't touch it fool!!!" yeah I know :P Well nevermind, So I got excited, here's some more for you to deal with... though I never had not the will, the thrill nor the skill to make it with the wall... so:

and another...
(notice that the village shown earlier is there in the back)
hmmm, there are some oddities... the colour of the sky behind the tree branches etc. But hey, it's still... or from now on in progress...
it looks really nice man, keep the good work :D
wow, I was expecting some AGS forums clichés like It's not realistic or try out more shading or the perspective or such ;)
Glad you like it... still the characters I drew were too small to include details, so I'm on it next
(http://img368.imageshack.us/img368/1563/princesssprite2tc.png)
I think she turned out too small so I was making her bigger before I started having doubts. But she's not originally from this game but then afterwards included... don' thave a role for her yet :)
looks like a very promising female side-character, though. depending on the style of your game she could very well be someone to offer some quests, or even being the (truly clichee) damsel in distress... I too like the style, looks very good. keep it up- and maybe you can show the "bigger" version? the only thing i'd do was changing her dress's color. there's a rich history background; if she was a medeveal princess purple, red and even orange was the thing, a lady of the court would wear something in earth colours, very tones down...
Useful information, thank you ghost. I thought, maybe her father is kidnapped and you have to save the world... and from the half on the maiden will follow you as you both have an important task to do. He, don't know about it then...
That pathway in the background looks like it could use some work. As is, it kind of resembles a tapeworm... maybe make it wider as it comes closer to the screen.
the... oh you mean the path to the castle! Yes, I agree, it's one of those unfinished... did my pics just disappear? well... I uploaded them again on a different site so they ought to hold from now on.
I'll work on them, but of course can't do it all at once, I do have my school at the side, but an hour every now and then... those BGs did take hours to make
And I made the princess over... but as I tried it, it was "a bit" too big... then I checked, and it was 100 pixels tall, so I'll start all over again... or stay with the old on...
For the first pi, the grey building on the right side bugs me. I'm fining the the stones under the landing this seem to get smaller and smaller as they go up, almost looking like there's a weird perspective thing going on or something. That's the impression I'm getting when looking at it, anyway.
For the one with all the blocks (not easy to figure out what it is exactly), I just wonder how you'd navigate a character around all of that.
The tiles are actually equally sized, though their seams are darker. Yes, it's a trick... shading and all, one thing I tried out while working on my own style. But then, I kind of like it... With the darkness spreading, so the light can only touch some smaller parts of the tiles...
The first room (the starting room) is full of cardboard boxes. The walkable are consists of only one box to where you start at and down from there on... There would the be a bum sleeping on then larger box on the right... this way, I'll show:
The walkable and walkbehind areas are the thin black lines with messy black...
The bum I was thinking would act as a continous theme in the game that keeps appearing and then helping or giving philosophical guidance or making it hard for you...
And then, as it is weekend and there is no party anywhere, I did something to the larger pic, room.2 too. As in enlarging the road... to add depth and perspective and then cleaning the sky behind the branches... Funnies thing, still amazed by my enthusiasm and what I did back then, the sky must have all possible colours of blue in it, like the darker green hillside and the castle too in grey :D talking about perfectionism. Perhaps the wall should be somewhat the same as in the village pic, but it takes so much time to do such structure...

HAH! Not quite, I meant the comments and criticism you get here :D :D No, perspective is important in some cases, but the frequent comments on it have more or less become clichés. To me at least

Thanks Corey. Did you try her on with AGS? I don't know how to place an animation here so...
nope , i didnt try her in AGS but she looks nice from here :)
Yeah :D All girl look beautiful from afar, but get closer you see the hidious scar on her cheek and the thin nose and the red eyes and the misshapened forehead... nah just kidding, they all look good in a way... I'm quite happy with her walking though. My second sprite-animation ever so she's a bit stiff but nevertheless :)
So I got into a dead end again... Anybody who can inspire me in decorating the village. I can't seem to decide what the houses should all look like. I don't wish them all look alike. I'm short in ideas from grey tiles to wooden boards, but what else can it be like?
The village is seen in the 1st pic.
thanks

Tuomas, is that the weird King Crimson pic you have as your avatar? :)

It was and yes, it is. probably should remove it as everybody keeps asking about it. But back to the topic if I may....--------->
Well, rather than trying to come up with new types of buildings to create it might be better to do variations of one building types, all with visible variations and a few of them that look especially different. Mabye a few trees here and there. If it were up to me I'd remove the wood log houses, they don't seem to belong in a village (they're more of a "cabin in the wood" thing)
WOWOW! my first two-page-thread! Thanks King_Nipper, I did think of that, and I thought if I should draw the houses further away from each other. The village looks kinda stuffed doesn't it now!
Guess what I tried with the wooden one there was to create a kind of atmosphere... that-sort-of-thing, But before I go changing it furthermore, I'd appreciate an another opinion on the case...
Maybe give some buildings this kinda wood siding kinda reinforcement deal:

forgive the crappy Paint drawing. I'm liking your style so far, hope this helps.
on an entirely unrelated note, aren't those Cream lyrics in your signature?
