This image, is barely photoshopped, and has nothing to do with the HHGTG. I'd love some thoughts on it, and yes the rock is supposed to be weird.

and yes the rock is supposed to be weird.
But was it supposed to be
flat?
- rock doesn't have "realistic" volume (it looks like it was extruded), so it seems flat but thick, even that is not very consistent (it seems like the upper half is viewed from the left and like the lower part is viewed from the right)
- sun doesn't seem to be shining, maybe move the center of the gradient of the sky over to the center of the actual source of light, not going into the different hue issuses, cause I actually find it cool looking like that
- the left cloud looks wierd, those must be some strange air currents on that planet
- the perspective is skewed, the rock and cliff are a bit too tillted towards the camera in contrast to the ocean
Hope that helps.
The shading on the cliff and ocean is nice, the sun appears to be diabolical photoshoppery so stay away from that.
The rock does indeed need some work though, even if it is meant to be flat, it's shaded strangely and inconsistently. But generally yeah, this is a nice show of progress in your artwork, I like it.
im no bg expert by any means but based on what i do know - i think i could help u a little:
not sure whats going on with the cliff in the bottom left ... i mean to me it almost looks like a silhouette of a bush or something in the foreground.
the sun does look like an orange or something floating around in the foreground. u may want to change ur shading to make it look less round ... i know you have your own art style going on here (and i like it) but maybe take a look at some real pictures (or paintings) of a nature/ocean scene with a sun in it and see how its shaded to get a more realistic approach.
also - i recommend maybe doing something to the sun like reducing its opacity or something so it looks further away.
I dunno, the sun is smaller here...

Good points on where the sun should be there! And the rock too!

Agreed there, points taken.

Good to know.
Overall, yes, indeed the sun does look like an orange and the rock seems to be everything but a rock, so I'll give em a fix and post as soon as possible. :o
