Title: Some music for general C+C
Post by: SpacePirateCaine on Wed 29/09/2004 18:23:14
Hey there,

I was working on an entry for the September MAGS competition, but due to extraneous circumstances, I was unable to make the cut, as it were, but I still wanted to share something with the class (Albeit this has nothing to do with MAGS, and it's just an excuse, all things considered).

This tune here (http://www.garlic.com/~rideout/spacepiratecaine/SpacePirateCaine%20-%20The%20Hyperspace%20Lounge%20(Funky%20Love%20Mix).mp3) was an attempt at creating a piece of music combining a little bit of lounge music with a funkdafied breakbeat line thrown on top for good measure. I actually composed it quite a while ago, and this is an upgraded version of the original itself, but I thought I'd like to get some opinions, and perhaps criticism on the song from you folks here.

It's, for all intents and purposes, a theme for the comic series that I'm writing, and I have an intent to throw together an entire album, should I find the inspiration and have the ability.

It cuts off somewhat abruptly at the end of the track - it's intended to be part of a 'symphony' of sorts, so that is intentional, but otherwise, especially in the fields of balance and/or what-have-you, I'm wondering what I could do to turn this piece into something magnificent.

Hey, disregarding that this is not my style of music, I must say it started off very interesting!

alas some crits:
the 3d sound (synth-organ?) is somewhat off, I think you should use a cool hammond organ for that (or something)

the drumbeat is totally not what I expected :) I expected a hip-hop sort of drums :P. This works good too, but I would lower the volume of the drums.

now that I'm ranting I might just as wel continue...
I think you should think of a sort of melody that goes over it all, with a flute or an analead or something. Because without a melody / solo-instrument the whole is becoming a bit repetitive after 2:30 minutes if you know what I mean.

Now I don't want to be putting it down only
I must say I love the Vintage Vinyl sound you got under there, and I must say the whole sounds very professional groove armada like :)

Now I don't have a lot of knowledge in this kind of music style, so what i just said might be bobbycock. Anyway that's what I think of it!

Keep it up!
