Suggestion for wood panels

So I'm working on a room background, where the walls are wood paneling... and I started to do wood grain... but to make it takes a long time per panel...

Is it really needed though... as you can see its only the first few panels on the left the rest is flat... Just wanted opinions on should I add the wood paneling or just don't worry about it.

And don't worry about the black, that's actually where the GUI sits. So anyway

Good work, I would finish the 2 first panels and then I would make copy-paste of them, in normal way, mirrowing, reverting them... It seems that all have the same size...   ;)

the wood panelling is nice. It would be good if you keep them. As juasma said, you should complete the half done panel, and then you'll have panel templates for all the sizes. You could then use clone stamp or copy-paste to put it on all the panels, but make sure you change the placement of the other panels (starting from a bit lower), so that they don't all look the same.

I think it's rather unnatural to have such variation in the width of the "panels".

If this is supposed to be a luxurious room, then the wood looks too natural - generally it's stained darker and polished until the grain hardly shows.

If it's supposed to be a cheap room, then I'd just reduce the variation in width, have some slight variation in wood colours in each plank, and continue with the grain. It's probably too coarse but I think that's acceptable in a 320x200 room.

In any case I think the colour is a little sickly. I changed the hue by -4 in Photoshop and I think it looks a lot better - the base wood colour was then (118, 71, 0).

It won't probably help you since the simple-color style you're using, but you might want to take a look anyway.

It's simple technique I've been using for ages, though tutorial was written ages ago aswell - just see my newer bg's how it really looks like.

Ok updated again... this time with other stuff that would eventually end up in there... this time the whole thing has grain on it.

And Steve most paneling I know of has different widths, in fact that's exactly what the fake wood paneling looked like in the room I grew up in (except my room had slightly better resolution).

Neutron

i would either eliminate, or change the color on the picture frame, because it matches the wall too much, making it look like an opening.

Added a border line, and a shadow under the picture to help facilitate that it is above the wall..

Anything else?

Shouldn't the bottom of the cabinet be lower than the bottom of the wall?

Alynn

Thats not the bottom of the wall, the black area is where the GUI sits, therefore there is no reason to draw anything down there. That dresser has more to it, just as the wall continues in the non viewable area.

Kweepa

In that case I wouldn't align the bottom of the second drawer with the bottom of the image. It looks like the chest ends there.

BRILLIANT!!! How did I not see that, wow Krysis, you have enlightened me beyond anything I could ever imagine. Thank You so much!!!1one!!1!

Hrm... so Steve, you think I should raise the top of the dresser some and have like half the 3rd drawer showing? There are four levels of drawers (7 total, the bottom one is a single drawer) so I thought it looked OK since the POV is someone standing about 5 feet or so from the dresser and wall looking directly ahead, so the dresser does fade out of view.

Yes, sounds good.

Maybe its just me, but the wood grain makes my head spin, its too ...exact. ,even when your that close to wood ,you donit see that much detail on the grain, showing each line and such, as well, only having 2 colors seams a bit weird. cheak out some wood texures on the net 2 see wat i mean
hope this helps

I think that everything is very... centered. The drawer is in the middle, the pic in the middle of the drawer. It's not about the wood panneling I know, but I think that you have this covered. And I think that it is very unatural to have different size of panels everywhere.
