Something about a walk cycle?

Ok so I made this walk cycle and I think it looks alright if I render every 5th frame and put it into AGS.  However, the problem I am having is that If I move the torso slightly you can't really tell in AGS but if I move it enough to see it she walks funny... any ideas on what could help?  Also, any comments on how I can improve this will be much appreciated.

Here is the cycle:

I think the walking itself is fine.....

It just seems weird to me that NOTHING above the hips seems to move (besides the arms). I mean - her boobs don't bounce (from a PURELY anatomical perspective, unless she's wearing a titanium bra, there should be SOME breast movement...), her head doesn't tilt at all, and her hair is weighed down with bees' wax.

If you were to do that, then the torso would be less of an issue.....

But I love the 'feel' of the character... she's very hot, no... sexy, dammit, well endowed, I mean... she's a bombshell...

you get my drift...

Well.. she IS wearing a titanium bra, she had to have a rod placed in her neck, and well.. she likes the way the bees wax looks,

KIDDING...

Thanks for pointing that out.

And thanks for the compliment.

I am trying to work on her facial expressions too..  (for a game I am just starting to work on)

Here is her face close up if you want to see:

MrColossal

i plead with you not to add bounce to the boobs

my girlfriend walks around all the time and i often look at her chest and they don't wiggle and a jiggle

a bounce in her step is definetly needed however, when her legs are in the passing position [1 leg straight the other bent and coming forward] she'd be at her highest, when the leg coming forward touches the ground and the other leg is all the way back she'd be at her lowest and it doesn't need to be much but even the littlest bit will help a lot

He's right, but somehow you don't seem to capture that in the close-up...

I know she's your girlfriend, but it sounds like you appreciate her breasts more than her face... ;D

The boobs shouldn't be RUBBER! They have to have a sort of firmness about them, but, as eric said, she needs a bounce in the step. Speaking from the point of gravity, when the breasts go DOWN in the stepward motion, gravity would want to KEEP THEM DOWN, despite the rest of the body going up, so there should be the slightest of slight of bounces....

But again - don't let them hit her in the face...

i agree there needs to be at least some bounce, or they need to be smaller, but i think smaller would be bad, they fit.

How come everyone is concerned about the jiggling of her boobs, and nobody worries whether her hair should swing back and forth while she walks? ;)

Because we're not GAY, goddammit!!! ;)

But seriously... I was thinking about the sweater... She looks a bit pale, so maybe if you give the sweater a warmer color it would bring out the skintones a bit more? ...unless she's a vampire or a shut-in. In that case, ignore me. :)

I think the face is very nice, and I would love to see an animation of it. And her eyes are green! I love green eyes! That's because I'm a deep and sensitive man...

I like the face picture, but it doesn't quite capture the same essence as
the full body walk-cycle (as Zor so kindly pointed out).

In the face, she looks so 'innocent and pure', whilst in the walk, she
seems very independant and strong-willed and sexy-ish.

The other thing I noticed in the face is the left eyebrow (from the
viewer's perspective). It's hard to distinguish where the eyebrow
ends and the shadow starts. You can see it if you look hard, but I
feel it should be clearer. They eyebrows also seem too drastically
different in colour from the hair, and the hair on the face seems much
lighter than the hair in the walkcycle, but that could just be the
difference in lighting...

Bouncing breasts are like floppy hands - they don't belong in a walk cycle.

You know I spend a lot of time looking at MrColossal's girlfriends breasts myself and I have to say that even though they're not all over the place, they do move. :)

No, the hilarious joke I just made aside, I don't think the original request for fluidity in the breastal area was meant as a plea for extreme mammilla agitation, more like saying have them move a pixel or two left and right as her torso and the bounce that was mentioned in step would be causing them to do. They're not fixed in space at one point is all I think our man Peter Thomas was getting at. She's only animated (and very well may I add) the bottom half of the jacket that's on the legs, you can see the seam in the jacket where movement ends.

However! The animation over all looks amazing, and I agree she's a good-from-far-but-far-from-good. A butter face. The walking animation looks a lot more soft and curved, almost like hand painted except for some tell tale signs, but the face still looks constructed, built on a machine, a few polys showing like a half built building with rafters sticking out of the unfinished roof.
"So I've proved my point a thousand fold," snorts Davis. "Ho ho."

Nice! This will be a very good-looking game, I think.

In terms of the walk cycle, as has been said, she doesn't move at all except for her arms and legs. The suggestions I'd personally make for that, rather than making her chest bounce, which is somewhat gratuitous, I think you should have her shoulders move more with her arms, and her hips as well. If the rest of the torso moves along with it, that should make the motion itself a little more natural.

Also, what I think MrColossal meant by "a bounce in her step" was that her *whole body* should move up and down a little. If you walk around yourself, you'll notice how your head bobs up and down (a little or a lot, depending on the person), and it follows that the rest of you does as well...unless you're goosestepping, in which case you probably have a whole array of other issues I won't get into.  ;)

In terms of her face, I think she looks more innocent because of her expression, wide-open eyes and shy little smile, combined with the pulled-back hair and (sexist as it sounds) the lack of makeup. It makes her look extremely young, almost childlike. Just given the otherwise fashionable way she's dressed, it seems like she would have some kind of mascara, and eyeliner, maybe... Is eyeliner the right word for makeup that goes on the eyelid? It seems right, but I have this nagging suspicion that I'm forgetting a more specific word. Anyway, she doesn't need blush or lipstick or glitter or any of that, but the makeup might make her look older, which I think you may want.

Ok.. Just so everyone is clear:

QuoteThe other thing I noticed in the face is the left eyebrow (from the
viewer's perspective). It's hard to distinguish where the eyebrow
ends and the shadow starts

.... She is rendered in 3D Max..  It produces its own shading.

And .. I wasn't really asking for critizism on the closeup.  It's just a render I did a LONG time ago testing expressions and such.  And .. yes her eyebrows don't match the hair, but I only threw that hair on her, because when I was making the expressions she looked really weird bald.

Now, as much as I appreciate all the comments on how her breasts should move, I was hopeing to get some feedback on the whole thing. (big thankyou to those of you who you pointed out other things.)  I am not really going to spend alot of time on the makup right now because I don't think she will be getting that close to the camera.  Even so, I don't think she should wear that much makup as she is a cold case dective on a haunted house (OMG NOT ANOTHER ONE) game I am working on.

Here is a WAY WAY WAY unfinished scene from it if you want to get a feel for what the game is going to look like:

http://www.ncloansource.com/mary/ExteriorPICT.jpg

(please no crit as I am far from being done, I still have alot of details to work on)

The pale skin sorta goes along with the theme, and I am not sure what color I want to make her sweater yet, so I just made it pink because well.. I like pink.

I am going to work on putting a little "bounce" in her step and some movement to her hair (If you look close enough her hair is acctually moving, it's just hard to tell because it's only very slightly, I will make it more obvious)

But when I get the new walk cycle up I will post and and you can give me your opinions and you can help me make a really good animation.

Thanks!
