Title: Something weird to C&C... need help!
Post by: InCreator on Wed 07/12/2005 21:54:19
Alright, with great enthusiasm I started "leaving a trace" by introducing this simple crap I can do best and what amazes some people.

A complete tutorial. Serious one.
I made one when I was total n00b and made to tutorials section in ags main page. So this is the second one.

It's way harder work than I thought, i'm practically doing something that's usually 2-minutes work for 3 days already!

Now, when I'm through with start, I got doubts about this...

* Is my english sufficent for a thing like this? Sure, I can post on forums and majority understand, but a tutorial...?
* I'm not a web designer and hardly know how to make a page. Frontpage XP is quite easy thing to use, though. Is it comfortable-readable enough?
* How do I explain? Or let me rephrase - do you understand a thing I'm trying to teach?
* What's the level of telling things? I tried to dumb things as down as possible, but it's dumb for me, I can't feel/think for others. Or did I go overboard telling some extremely easy thing too long?

This thing takes lot's of my time, which is quite valuable thing anyway, since I have no holidays and 1-3 hours per evening free time after all. If noone needs this, I'm wasting my time.

So, main question is - should I continue?
And will anyone actually need it?

Thanks for checking out.

I would advice to change the background. I feel it's confusing...

First of all thank you!

We, the people that can't really draw, or are still learning (no matter how old we are), need these things. And furthermore if the tutorial is made by someone who we know, even better :)

Your English seem to me sufficient (but I'm not a native Brittish speaker...)

Change the background! It is too much.

And finish it! Please finish it!

Of course it is difficult! What did you think?  hehe

I think it's great!!

You should keep writing it by any means! I can understand everything you're trying to say (although I am not a native speaker) and the page looks fine as well.

(If you need a good design, contact me, I've got loads on the HD and I can whip a decent, standards-compliant one in minutes)

Well, I changed it to more eye friendly (??) green. Better?
And since it's totally in WIP state, there's lot's of typos.
Will change that later!

It will probably be of much interest, so I believe its worth the effort, but I think the name of it should indicate that it's based on a tracing technique. As is, the reader will discover this by the third page of tutorial, which is very late.

Apart from that, I think the language works well, but the pages feel too long and unstructured. Smaller chunks with clear headers would make the steps feel more approachable and easily remembered.

Good luck with the rest.

Dead end? Read my first post: The tutorial is in progress, not completed yet.

This tutorial is a brilliant idea! It is what I personally have been looking for since I started AGS.
I think that even though it takes a lot of time it will work out being awesome. Also I think the English is understandable (English is my primary language) and the way you have written it is not too "dumb". The page design is nothing over the top but is what you would want to see behind something you would be following instructions from.
Keep up the good work!
