Title: Space Quest 5.1

Thought there would be a cool story to tell in between SQ5 and 6, so I whipped these up today as a test.

sprites are pretty good but his eyes look crossed and his hands are a bizzare shape. Her breats dont look quite right either. Not much to fix though and the colouring is decent enough too.

Aside from looking physically retarded (crossed eyes and bowed knees), I don't think the black outlines fit with the rest of the shading/coloring on the sprites.. You should just blend in with a darker shade.

Other than that, lookin' good.

Lovely... Many people does not consider dark outlines their cup of tea, but for me they work terrific (Advantages: You can delete most of the colors of a sprite if you don't like them using a filling tool with the necessary tolerance...)

As for the chars... good, very good for a start... but there is room for improving.... Roger seems a little bald... move his hair line down a little... put fingers in his hands ;) The pose is not very heroic, nor the expression... Maybe this is intended, but I would "open" his arms a little... The silly expression is a typical problem when using black pixels in the eyes, his look seem dumb, it's difficult to fix if you want to keep the "white and black pixels" for the eye, my reccomendation is to go for a combination of browns. Also I think that the legs can be changed.

As for the girl... my suggestions are:

Change the pose,specially the legs, the tommy and the hands...

Hope it helps... If you could post a gif or pcx it should be cool, as the image I got is spoiled by the "JPGization"... Surely people would like to make their edit.

Farlander: Thanks for the detailed suggestions, I think they'll be a big help.  I'll remember to post gifs next time.

Think i'll focus on Roger for now...

Made quite a few changes... fixed the eyes and hair, changed the outlines, added a few new things.Ã,  I like this version much better.Ã,  Looks more like the SQ5 sprite.

Still, I think the fists don't look quite right... he's supposed to have them on his hips, but it looks like he's flexing... any suggestions on fixing that?

the face has definitley improved, but now it looks as if hes holding his pants up. Nearly there though.

I think I preferred the first one, boss-eyed 'n' all.
Just seems more cartoon-y.  More defined.

Yeah... go for the dark outlines... why? because with Space Quest we're trying to archieve something... Smelling the paper of the old Flash Gordon Comics... Do you remember that pulp comics? Outlines is the answer. If you ask to me, a intro with "speech bubbles" in the "BASS style" would rock.

Good work with the sprite pixelcat. It would be nice to see another SQ game if you decide to look into it.

That is an awesome edit Farlander. The only thing that iritates me is one dark pixel below the mouth.

Excellent edits, Farlander... I really like what you've done with the eyes.Ã,  I'll see if I can get some of your edits into the final, 'cause they're a big help.

I tried some changes last night, but the sprite doesn't seem to match the SQ theme so i'll keep trying...

Made some more changes... made it closer to Farlander's edit 'cause it was really great.Ã,  Think there's more room for improvement with the hands and the left leg, so i'll keep working on it.

There....He looked like he desperatly had to visit the toilet...or he would crap his pants...his pose looked kinda unnatural...tried to fix that...

His face looks a bit mr Bean-ish, and very unrelaxed. His pectoral muscles are is very flat, although I might have overdone his muscularity at the shoulders n back in my edit:

I didn't notice how unnatual the pose was until I saw that edit, thanks kaaZ.Ã,  Especially the right hip.

I like what you've done with the upper body as well, loominous, looks like i'll be doing some more edits.

I love the Roger, Beatrice needs more shine, like a fresh cleaned toilet on the Eureka.


Also, his rank is still a captain, at the end of 5 he was returning the Goliath to Starcon Federation, and at the beginning of 6 he is stripped of his rank. Any tidbits on the storyline as of what he did between these events?

You original work was pretty good,

I caught this to coment on Roger, xcept to say that U RoXoRz (lol)

BUT IMO, Bea needs some work now.  Been a LOOONG time since I played 5, but to me she looks like she's gained some weight, and become diaper dependent (lol again)

You could probably apply all the same face-oriented tips to Bea, as she too looks kinda cross-eyed.  I'd make her hips narrower, and for gosh-sakes make her legs closer together.  You might want to narrow the waist some (hourglass figure..hint hint) and straighten up her shoulders.  I also agree with LostTraveler, her uniform needs that "freshly polished latex bimbo" look, IMO.

BTW, are you going to make alpha blended shadows over the background?!  That is the way it appears now, and it would be really cool. ;)

LostTraveler: I have quite a few ideas and plot points at the moment... nothing but spoilers now, though.

Hollister Man: Not sure about shadows at this point, but i'd like something similar to my original work, if it's not too much trouble.

FYI, thanks for the comments but i'm going to redo Bea from scratch, and in the new style. I haven't really done any work on her at all... wanted to finish Roger first.
