Need help with Chief Tobago's throne

I've some problem with making a throne for the native village's Chief Tobago. I made it from Burga's voodoo throne from the background of his hut and tried to make it more royal and less voodoo but it's not going so well.

The the chair with the green cushion is Tobago's throne while the other is Burga's (remember the shaman?) and guy is Tobago himself (needlessly said). I've made the throne wider, changed the color of the cushion and changed the backseat's carving to a star but can't figure out how to make the throne more that fitting to a native village leader.

I would like to hear what you others think and your opinions. Paintovers are accepted.

I'd say more important than making it wider is making it taller.Ã,  Positions of greater height often correlate with positions of greater authority.Ã,  Give it a taller base, and make some steps leading up to it.

Also, you can make it look fancier than the shaman's throne by tossing some extra bric-a-brac onto it...some big horns on the side (from a wildebeest, perhaps?), for example, and/or maybe some colorful feathers or shells.Ã,  And maybe make the whole back of the throne cushioned instead of just the seat...though instead of lime green maybe you could go with tiger- or leopard-fur lining.Ã,  Also, I'd make the star on the chief's throne bigger than the oval on the shaman's--the fact that the carvings are different doesn't really show which is more "important", but making one larger would help that.

Just some thoughts...

Alun: Oh, I forgot to tell this detail: The game I'm making for is in the Caribbean, so leopard and tiger-skins don't work (unless Tobago would have bought them from a shop but I doubt he would taken that because it's not part of their tradition).

What I have done:

Added feathers on the top of the throne.

Made the star carving bigger (Thanks Khrismuc for showing how to make a star).
Made a step to make throne look taller.
Added seashells on the step and on each side of the throne's sitting.
Added carved symbols below the seatcushion.

What do you all think? Anymore critics or comments? Suggestions to change it maybe?

It's funny how his beard hair is white, but his body hair is black. Agreed, body hair and facial hair don't always match, but there shouldn't be SO big a difference.

Babar: Sorry if I'm so pushy but I posted for getting critics and comments about the throne, not about Chief Tobago. Thanks for poiting out though, I'll make them more gray than black to match beard a bit.

Babar

ahaa... in that case-
add the skulls of his dead enemies to the throne. Or the animals he killed.
Make the carvings on the throne more interesting! Make the hand-rest arms with claws, make the headrest the carving of his ancestor's head, who will look over him in death. Make the footrest huge feet with sharp nails. Add some squigely line designs to the wood. Put MANY more coloured stones, and clam shells. Drape it with painted fur.

Looks a lot better now, IMO.  The lime green still strikes me as odd--even if it's set in the Caribbean and there are no tigers or leopards, some kind of fur still seems more fitting; where is the lime green dye coming from?  But that's a detail.  Overall, I think this is a big improvement.  Could maybe still use a few more adornments on the sides and armrests, but it definitely looks more important than the shaman's throne now, and it didn't before.

I've spent quite a bit of time in the Caribbean ... the last thing in the world I'd want to sit on would be something furry :)

I did a tiny little paint-over ... really only added some shading effects.

- added some over all shading effects to the outsides of the chair back
- shaded the cushion/seat area
- shaded/hi-lighted the rounded part of the arm-rests
- hi-lighted the the part where the arm rest turns down

Hope it was helpful!

Thanks for the paintover, Darth! Yeah, you're right about not having a seatcushion made of fur in such hot climate in the Caribbean (even if I haven't been in the Caribbean itself I've been in the areas around it). That's the reason for not having any fur on the chair.

Alun: What makes you think the green color is limegreen? I just choosed the regular Green from Paints regular palette. By the way, what's actually wrong with green? I choosed it to seperate from Burga's throne and that green is a nice color.

Babar: I'll think about.

"Lime green" is just a term for a bright light green color.  That may be the regular green from Paint's palette, but it still strikes me as a bit of an unlikely color for the cushion of a native's throne.  If you're going to go with green, I'd pick a darker, more natural-looking green.

But that's a minor detail, and a matter of opinion, and I won't press the point.  (And I certainly concede the point on the fur...yeah, Darth's right; I didn't take into account climatic considerations.)  As I said, your latest picture of the throne is much better than the one you started with, and I think it certainly works now as is.

When I think "native village" I think lot's of talismans and ornaments and idols and carvings of gods or spirits in the chair. For starters

A new version of the throne:

Changes:

- Changed the cushion from limegreen to another type of lightgreen.
- Added some carvings on the arms of the chair and at the step of the throne.
- Used Darth's shading.
- Added some gems at arms of the chair.

So, do you think it needs more improvements or is it good enough as it is?

EDIT: Now that it have gone several hours without any further comments or critques then I will say thank you for the help. It will be added to my background for CM.
