Hi, this is my first serious attempt to make a room bg. I think it's quite empty and flat, so I was asking some help in colouring. BTW, it's unfinished. The characters are there only for proportions. And yes, the door is too small :)

thanks for help  ;)

Wow! Not bad for a first attempt!
I really like the carpet.

I'd suggest you have another look at the perspective of the room.
Especially the bed, shelf and desk look off perspective.

However, as I said ... I love the style of the background! Good work!

Yes, I think it's great for the first attempt.

Yes, for a 'first attempt' it's not too bad.

However there is room for some improvements.

I would suggest:

- fixing the angles on the door.  nothing else in the room is 'bent' like that and it stands out
- add some shading to the bump on the carpet, the shadow on the floor looks nice, but there's no visualization of the bump in the carpet
- if the window is your light-source, the wall the window is on would be in shadow and the side walls would be brighter, you have it backwards!
- the perspective is a little cranky ... but not unacceptable.
- and, as always with me, add some shadows

Again, for a first attempt, it's really good.  These are just some things I think would help improve the image!

Good start, hope it helps.

thanks to all for comments and suggestions!
I knew the door is strange, I'm going to redo it :)
You are right about the light in the room! I have to do some practice with light sources...
and about perspective, I did it in that way intentionally, but maybe I exagerated a little... :-\

Thanks a lot again  ;)

Basically what Darth said - and one thing: The rings on the carpet seem to be out of alignment.

But if that's the first character you drew, then it's darn freekin good! Well done!

I'm really digging the background. Reminds me of some early Lucasarts stuff. Well done.

Just a few suggestions.
1) Make the door slightly curved instead of bent, it will fit better.
2) Make the bed a little longer.
3) Make the pillow lie flat on the bed and not the headboard.
4) Make the picture frame a little thinner.
thats all I can think of at the moment.

well I'm glad of all the positive comments and suggestions :)
so, while I'm working on that room, can you comment this other work of mine? It's an university hall (based on a true one, mine ;) ). I'd need help with lights. The light sources are the two ones on the high and the far door on top left. Can someone could do some of those nice "quick edits" to teach me how to create shades of colour correctly?
this is half-sized to fit the forum

thanks :)

PS: that character is made by a friend, not by me :)

Ok then :D

Well, I think you should consider changing the colors on the new BG - They're a little ... odd.
Also the writing on the vending machine is straight, while the machine is angled due to perspective. You should look into changing that
