Okay... These stairs... They suck.Ã, :P
For the love of me I cannot improve this picture. I wanted to have a simple flight of stairs for a cut scene. They're supposed to be made of wood with yellow railings and no bottom to them (Like I have at the moment).
Basically, it's just the stairs and then the guy walks down and off the screen.
I can picture this almost perfectly in my head but I cannot seem to draw them in paint.
The railings look so wrong I'm actually a bit scared. Does anyone have any ideas of things I can do to make it look realistic?Ã, :-\

It looks about right shape-wise.....I don't know what sort of colors you normally work in, but if you don't have them set yet maybe tone down the colors a bit and add more details to your existing stair. Google for stair images, then you could probably get some ideas...
I threw together a quick 3D render. I think one of the main problems is the bottom beam on the railing. There would be no way to attach it. I took screenshots from a couple different angles so you could maybe see if you'd like another angle better...

Note how you could use simple lines to make them more 3D looking like in the third image...that may help alot...
Hope this helps!

Argh! the textures hurt my eyes! I don't think the textures help show what you mean, to me they make it unclear...
No wback ON topic, i think the bottom rail is fine, all our staircases in the new building at school (amazingly contempory as it is (and actually quite cool, though i hate to admit it as it IS a school building)) is just like that, I think however it does need to be attched to teh stairs them selves in one or two places but overall it cna stay. Also at school (no im not obsessed with my school i hate school...) they have bits of wood in the metal rhombuses (hope you get what i mean, inbetween the top bar an the bottom one) which looks very contemporary and stylish (for a school...)
So i would keep the bars, but attatch them to the stairs here and there, and maybe think about something to make the the stairs more inetresting (hence the bits of wood ect). Oh and like Squinky said, tone down the colors.

Trisk, I think your railings are too low!
Billy,
Judging for the size of the steps, I re-dimensioned the elements of your stair. Also roughlly added some other stuff, to give you ideas of things you could addicionaly do... post again so we can see what you achieved.

Um... Now all I have to do is ask Stefano if I can use this in my game coz I completely ripped that picture dude! ;)
What do you guys think? Anything obvious I messed up? Anything to make it look better?
Yes, yes... be my guest and use it! ;)
How about couloring the steps with the same brown? The dark background made them desapear!
Cheers,
Stefano
;D ;D ;D
Awesome!
Okay, I'll use the light colors as well and see which looks better.
I just thought... Hmm, I better change something!
Thanks alot all you guys who took time to help me out here. The games gonna be called Pre-School Peter so look out for it.
Cheers!
