Sorry to be depressing but after all the fiddling about, I still like the very first image best. With a few little bits tidied up it is a simple, clean, clear background.

I agree, the initial retro image is crisp and great to look at. But all the glows and smooth lights on the others are distracting and feel artificial, especially the six red "buttons" at the front.

hmm the majority vote seems to be with the retro looking BG :) I think thats made up my mind.

Dualnames

I did a rendition of the red lights. I think you'll find them cooler.
At least, I think they are.

Worked on Strangeland, Primordia, Hob's Barrow, The Cat Lady, Mage's Initiation, Until I Have You, Downfall, Hunie Pop, and every game in the Wadjet Eye Games catalogue (porting)

InCreator

yes! Red lights left, green ones to the ceiling.

Red lights on ceiling first... sounds not reasonable, especially since they don't light anything really and from practical standpoint, red lights are useful for lighting photo labs and nothing else.

Now I like dualnames' way of red lights, but they distract a bit too much. I'd rather have no lights on left at all.

Dont be too scared of 3D especially with Maya, Maya is one of the easiest 3D modelling tools out there in my opinion and I have used them all...Blender, 3DS Max, Cinema 4D and I think your discribing Bryce 3D. As high-end 3D packages go you cant go too wrong with Maya. I used to be a 3DS man but had to learn maya..very quickly! for a job and now I would never go back (but thats me and I know alot of people that have tried maya and hate it...).

BRYCE 3D! That's it!

Well you shouldn't be too scared of PS, either! I think I'll pop into my school lab and mess around with Maya, then...
All my trophies have disappeared... FINALLY! I'm free!

I think both images are good, but then they are from the same source.  It's really up to you which you go with, though I would suggest as others have to minimize the fogging unless it makes sense to the scene.  Either way these look very moody and interesting!
