Okay so i got my wacom today and have been trying to recreate Dans awesomeness all afternoon.
it's a lot harder than it looks :P
So i took a break and tried something different, took me about ten minutes to finish.

EDIT - forget the last one
I took another stab at drawing a more serious background, this one has taken around an hour so far to lineart and colour, all done with the tablet.

I'm really stumped on how to do the water, i want to have something that looks realistic with a nice reflection of the moon in it but i also need to add more of a glow for the moon on the grass etc.
Scotch... Loominous? Eric?
Artisticly it seems fine, but a very quick obsevation:
There is very little room for the character to move, most of the BG is the sky. This could provide problems for a game... (I guess)
Each a very nice style...
While it does look good, it feels a bit empty.
I'd say add details.. maybe a few flowers and mushrooms for example?
What's with the grotesque blackness at the bottom? I get that the sides are bushes, but nothing in nature is perfectly straight like whatever that ungodly abomination in the middle is!

I thought it was space for a GUI?
I'd say the image looks pretty good for 10 minutes and a 1st day with a new tablet!

I guess that's for the gui, [lgm]. ;D
Good work, I wish I could draw this good with my tablet. You could try to use a little more dramatic lighting ( Ã Â la loominous ;) ) and some more details maybe, as said before. Apart from that it's cool.
But what is this noise all over the picture? Since this is a png I believe it's in the pic itself and not some kind of artefact!? It looks like you used the Photoshop noise filter on the whole image?
EDIT: Darth was quicker...
New background, see top post. :)
Chicky,
I have that same problem, I can draw pretty well with a tablet but I can never get the perfect looking water & reflections. Don't even mention animating water. You're going to be a great tablet masta. Keep it up. ;)
