So i was thinking of friday the 13:th movies and thought it would be nice to do a game based on the slahermovies from the 80's. I have used myself as a chracter. The basic idea is that your sister/brother never returned from summercamp and you get worried...you go to the camp and find dismembered bodies everywhere and you start an investigation to find out who killed everybody etc...The pictures here are only testscreens but it will look something like this

What do you think? :D
mass genocide is the most exhausting activity one can engage in, next to soccer

I dont think this is my widescreen TV decieving me, your sprite of you is stretched and flattened, is he not?

The idea is a standard "solve murder mystery" thing. Nothing too original which of course doesnt mean it's a bad thing.

As for the pictures:
- guy out of proportion
- he doesnt look like he is standing in the woods or in front of the house but rather like a cut-out pasted on a photo(which he kind of is but you get what i mean)
- mood of the pictures doesnt fit the theme. if you want to make a horror game make sure the pictures deliver the appropriate mood(for example by switching from daylight to night).

I always like it when people have a go at using real photographs as their backgrounds.  It can look a bit piecemeal if not executed with care.  I actually quite like the backgrounds, despite it being daytime.  Maybe you could photoshop in some blood (where apprpriate).

The guy looks a bit off and to make a whole walk-cycle in this way will have to be done carefully, but overall I'm liking what I see.

Good luck with this project, Mouth.

But please save your screenshots in a different file format (preferrable .png) next time, will you? Granted, .jpg didn't rape your picture that badly, but the quality still is... slightly less than optimal.

This message brought to you by AkatoshPictureFileFormatBot V1.8.  :P

I think Jpeg is more appropriate for such "photorealistic" images, if you think the quality is so bad just raise the compression quality a bit and allow for a slightly larger file. Using PNG for such types of picture is just unnecessary for viewing in the net, unless you're retaining all the details for sharing with others for serious editing.

As others has pointed out, the guy is out of proportion (he's "squished" and fat), while the backgrounds seem to attain a 1:1 aspect ratio, so they don't match well. Did you scale down the sprites from larger pictures first? In that case check if the aspect ratios are correct before scaling.

I won't use those backgrounds in the actual game...I got them from the web  just to try out my idea. I don't know how to make the character better. A friend used his videocamera and filmed me when i walked. then i saved a image of all the frames i needed and they automatically came out of proportion.

Khris

Well, put them back in proportion for starters... ;)

What? How? I don't know of any video editing programs that change the size of a picture during framegrabbing, and I've used my fair share of video editors...

Stupot

You'll have to shrink him separately when you're making your walkcycle, using photoshop or whatever you prefer.  Obviously just be sure to shrink him the same amount in each frame of the animation.

I'm sorry for not posting anything relevant (but I don't have a computer and therefor cannot start making a game yet) but that character looks like me.. a lot.
