greetings,
here's a short MIDI i made for a part of the game where the player jumps over buildings at the darkest of night...yeah it's kind of cliche. Anyhoo, tell me what you think of this: http://www.2dadventure.com/ags/Checkpoint.mid
I'm sort of going for a 24 style composition, i also want it to have mystery about it.
Cheers,
Fluke.

I do have things to say, but I'll save them for a later post.

The post after yours that you'll explain why you keep not doing anything after the critiques we give you constantly.

I want to help, but I would hate giving you adivce only to find out that you won't do anything about the track to get better, if you understand what I'm saying.

If you can use our advice in your benefit, in this track and in the future, then yes I have a lot to say. If not then I have nothing more to say.

I'm sorry but I was dissapointed with your previous lovely midi, that you didn't do anything, no matter what we said. And the pity is that everybody thought that it was good! Honestly!

So I'm waiting for your answer and then I'll be back.

Don't take this as an attack, but rather as a defense of me, my time and my knowledge.

i couldn't alter the other song because the composition program i was using then, you could not import MIDI. The composition program i am now using does import MIDI.

I know that this is not the forum to discuss this, but I can't help but answering back a little bit: So why exactly you can't import the previous midi in the current program?

Anyway, I hope that you will try something with this midi, since it is only 15 secs long...

The piano sound, sounds little in my ears. I could use something else for an instrument.

If you really want to keep the piano sound and only a piano sound, add to the bass some things:
* Accent the first beat of every bar with an octave lower.
* Play with the velocities a little (dynamics)
* For better prolonged playing add pedal to the bass notes
* For better prolonged playing without pedal, have hald of the notes (alternated) in one track and the rest in another something like this:
----------- (<-the original bass)
- - - - - - -
- - - - - -  (<-The new idea)
and make the duration of each note double.
* The melody is fine compositionally but still could use a little variation in the playing. Add ocatves, change velocitites

As it is though it is a very nice imusic idea which works well for what you want it. It reminds me of spectrum music and Saboter! hehe

Well done, once again.

Repost with the new midi please.

EDIT:

I think if you play this in Winamp it won't capture the volume and velocity changes...

My edit sounds a lot like Alexander Brandon... :P

Nikolas

Fluke: thanks for woring on it! It is refreshing!

Yep it sounds a lot better. The bass is sustained more and the dobuling the speed in the middle works. It also work as you retract the bass before the ending (the opposite of what Cameron did). Yes, it is much better.

Still you could've used other instruments as well. Is it that you want to keep this only piano, or because you don't know how to do it?

Geoffkhan: WOW, impressive, but of course in winamp lot's of things are just lost. Love it...

Vel

Amazing, Geoff!
And it made me laugh out loud too!
