Here's the new model for the main character in The Find. We wanted to keep the cartoony look and since he's 3D, we can have pretty smooth animation. (and 8 angles, too)
Tell me what you guys think.

Very nice cell-shading. However, I don't like the way you made his eyes, lip and eye-browns. Somehow it really unnerves me. Otherwise, it's great.
I love it, but the lips annoy me too
I love the broken swordstyle
He really seems a "Goodsoup" Do you remember Monkey Island 3? he... I think that his face should be more sweet if he is going to be the main character. It is just a matter of "nostalgia"... In the real world good guys can have all kind of faces, but in the adventure game world, the main character must be handsome. IMO.
Great! The style reminds me of Runaway. The only bad thing I can point out is that the hair seems a bit too blocky.
Looking absolutely great! As Vel mentioned, kind of Runaway style. Love it.
Looks fantastic!
But as people have said: lips and eyebrows.
Maybe some thinner lips and some thinner, arched eyebrows would do the trick...
Thanks for the suggestions.
Handsome, eh, Farlander? Percy has some differences from a "generic" character that give him personality. The eyebrows are thick on purpose, but I can see where we should shape them a little. We're also going to put a dark line where his mouth should be to be consistent with the style. We're going to make the stripes on his jacket gray instead of white.
Here's his original concept design:

This is his "in-game" model. For cutscenes (especially ones that feature close-ups), we'll make a more detailed version.
Unlike the character animation in Broken Sword, Percy will move quickly as well as smoothly. (I hate sluggish walking, no matter how good it looks. You know, you click to move somewhere and the character shifts, picks his nose, then saunters across the room. Gets annoying fast.)
Man... I really understand your problem... You´re trying to make a character with some personality and suddenly appears a guy who tolds you to keep it in the standard style... Don´t mind me, keep with the good work! :)
I was talking just of a matter with the design... but now I see that the conversion you made from 2-d to 3-d is perfect, so... I have nothing to say. I like to do the main character in the very aspect of the "blue prince", you know? :)
This may not help you much, but I have to say you did a great job making a 3-d character keep his cartoony feel! ;)
Wow! That is absolutely perfect, except for one thing... please, please change his lips, they're giving me nightmares and I'm still awake! But otherwise, fantastic work, this is going to look absolutely awesome in a game!
the lips.....the lips....
MWAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAH
Seriously, I think they will look better once we give him a dark line for a mouth (the upper lip is the one that bugs y'all, right?). We'll try some different things and post another version in this thread soon.
Ian
I dunno... he seems perfect to me. Especially if its how the creator wants it. It really really looks great! I can't really say how much I like this style. It reminds me a lot of the new Spiderman series on MTV.
Keep up the great work! I can't wait to see more! And if you want to go ahead and write a tutorial on how you made this character, it would be much appreciated!
and just to follow scummy.... I also love this style! Nice 3D character! And very nice drawn!! I like everything about him! Go Scummy Go!!
Nice work! I usually don't like 3d stuff, mainly because of lack of detail, but this looks great.
Me write an art tutorial? Oh my!
maybe he would be more "handsome" if you make his lips smaller. that's all I've got to add. can't say why i do that. you won't make him different now...
Do I detect a heavy influence from Ubi Soft's 'XIII'? I looks good, highly characterised. Well chosen colours and very stylish.
This is really good. I love the 3d-with-cel-shading style and you guys do it well.
And I think his lips and eyebrows are great. They give him character.
very nice, do the cuffs on his pant legs shift around on his shoes? for standing straight that is
and i like the face just fine, the lips are his lips and that's how they are
keep on rockin' in a free world
eric
Looks great! I see the comparison to XIII as well, but I think that's mainly because of the cell-shading.
The only negatives I could think of have already been mentioned (lips, eyebrows); I can't think of anything else that's not perfect about it.
Wow, great work.
I don't see anything wrong with his lips, I think they're doing a great job expressing the characters personality and/or mood.
The eyebrows could perhaps be improved with more curves though, like you did in the concept image.
I'm looking forward to seeing some backgrounds! I'm sure they'll gonna rock.

Thanks for the advice. I will definitely work on the curves of the eyebrows.
I've made a few other changes, also.
Anyways,

*cough* Where's that tutorial?!? *cough* ;D
Gregor, you should post the latest version of Percy (without the mesh and flat shaded models behind him). I wanna see it, too!
Awww, but I'm so lazy right now! Just kidding. Sure thing, bro.
Here's the latest Percy picture:

Sorry about the delay -- I've just been so busy lately.
Inside the heart of that man, beats the heart of a really really large man... I mean, just check out that shadow....
Seriously, at least what program are you using and techniques. I'd really like to see a tutorial if you had some free time for just this character.
Thanks, bro, for the updated pic. Did you fix the eyebrows? Can't really tell from this angle....
Yeah, actually, I aligned them to the sketch. I'll check on them again, anyways.
Scummbuddy, the reason there's those shadows is because the light is above Percy. I was much to lazy to move the light to a better angle. Hey, I barely got the picture uploaded without going unconscious from the exhaustion. :)
